I would guess most people might read the instructions and already know this. I believe I had forgot? I put an engine on the track to test some used transformers and was not getting any response. I tested with my meter and saw voltage? So I guessed that the engines were waiting for a DCC command that never came.
You have to have the magnet in place before you apply 10 volts to the track to get the reset announcement.
