Fine engine. It has 4 chuffs and cruise. Mine does not have the lurch. I have shortened the drawbar and added an engine deck.

Thanks, Pete. How did you shorten the drawbar?
Doug
Mine had the lurch..so i ran a wire from tender roller to loco roller and that took care of that...nice engine i always liked mine,,,norton how did u shorten the drawbar ? conrail john
I mill them but you can simply cut them, sand off the blueing and solder them after overlapping. Pics in this thread.

We have one, its a nice locomotive. We also added a wire from the tender roller, however ours didnt have he lurch.
Lionel got these 0-8-0's right from the start, full boiler and 4 chuffs per revolution. They're better than the most recent legacy 0-8-0's because Lionel cut corners on the speed control
(These were never even made with 2 chuffs, yets Lionel continued to offer ever other larger steamer with 2 chuffs for several more years)
I've never had issues with stalling over my fastrack switches so never needed to "tie" the loco and tender rollers together.
Great runners with no issues outside of the long drawbar. I have the B&A version which is a year or two newer. Its one of the best locos I own.
I have one of these guys; it has been a trouble-free engine to the extent I have never had it apart to date. It displays no lurch tendency and I run it across Atlas"O" 7.5 degree turnouts without issue.
Thanks for the replies.

Had this one and the C&O, I regret selling them years ago.

Yeah - always baffled me too.

I bought a high-mileage NYC version last year, but it runs well - except - the micro-switch is loose or so worn ( I assume) that the chuffs become irregular above very slow speeds - and I mean speeds that are still switcher-appropriate. Hard to open up to get to it so I haven't yet. I don't recall The Lurch (no biggie, anyway).
I also have a Southern version. No issues,
Great locos.
