Run away UC30c

All of a sudden, my TMCC UC30C Burlington (6-18274) would run away at full speed with any throttle setting. At first, I tried resetting the engine electronics and then the Odyssey system without success. I took the body off and found the magnetic ring on the forward motor flywheel broken into numerous pieces. I've ordered a new motor from Lionel, amazingly priced at $26 for the entire assembly, but how do I get the original off? Anybody do this before?
