I love this thread as Sante Fe has so many beautiful diesels and steamers, Happy Railroading Everyone
Awesome layout! Thanks for sharing!
@Rob Leese posted:Those MTH F7’s in blue are spot-on, and seem to be rare in the I gauge world. I have an ABBA set I ran at the Lone Star Hi-Railers layout years ago…that video is somewhere on the forum. The PS3 versions that finally lost those bothersome tethers are great models. Truly like your video.
Thanks Rob !!! Ditching those painful tethers really was a “Plus” for MTH models. My SF collection segment is small and this F7 only AB reflects that - and the B is unpowered to boot. Now I wish I’d been more aggressive with the consist. I’ve put together a Frisco F3 ABBA and it Really looks Cool. So now I Troll for added SF F7 AB unpowered units to add to this beauty. Meanwhile, I Do have an unpowered SF GP (zebra paint) that I can add to the consist !!!
Cheers !!! 🙂
Well Santa Fe Sunday fans, I usually don't have too much to show here but I thought I might keep this going and post a few pictures from about a year or so ago, maybe some of you didn't see them.
Here is the Marx #21 tinplate F-3 diesel, the largest diesel Marx produced. Its from 1950-1954
The Marx #1095 E-7 A unit from 1952
The Marx 1998 Alco S-3 in black from 1962
Some rolling stock. The Marx #3280 medium weight in orange from 1956
The Marx #3280 in lightweight white / red from 1973
The Marx #13975 stock car in yellow from 1955
The Marx #4427 deluxe caboose from 1957.
Well that's if for me today. I hope you liked the Santa Fe trains as developed by Marx over the 1950's.
Best wishes and hope you have a great week.
Don

@Don McErlean, Don, beautiful Marx tinplate Sante Fe diesels, brings back many memories of the 1950’s, and the Marx couplers may look square, but they hold really great, nice selection of Sante Fe cars, caboose, and nice switcher, Wow, @Eric C Lindgren, beautiful pictures of the Sante Fe diesel, and steamer, both in great settings, your work is amazing, @Dave Ripp, the Sante Fe FM is awesome, the box car is really nice, Atlas O quality is great, @GG1 4877, Jonathan, thank you for the kind words, I love seeing your scale trains, your collection is fantastic, Happy Railroading Everyone

@leapinlarry- Larry thanks so much for your comment on my Marx trains. It was fun rounding them up, I actually didn't think I had that many Santa Fe items. That covered hopper of yours is somewhat of a monster, like those 80 ft boxcars. No hope for me to run those. I loved the pictures of the BNSF diesels, those are what seems to be the dominant real train power around us in Central Texas these days. I see them quite often.
Best wishes my friend
Don

Nice video and I like your plated Santa Fe express reefer. I’m sure leapinlarry does, too. 😉

Lou1985, I'm a huge fan of the 15" aluminum passenger cars, I have the K-Line version California Zephyr. Your set looks fantastic being pulled by the Santa Fe Hudson! Thanks for the video, happy Santa Fe Sunday!

The 15" passenger cars are the only non-scale sized items I own/run. The 18" and 21" cars look bad on 072 curves, but the 15" cars look fine, so I stick with those on my layout, which has 072 curves.
Some black bonnet cabooses I painted recently. Three different cabooses...
A MTH NE “test” caboose that arrived with a damaged roof corner, so I added roof walks to hide the repair that just wouldn’t smooth out for me…
Another MTH NE caboose I painted for a fellow O gauger…
Finally, A MTH Santa Fe style caboose stripped and repainted by me, using Microscale and K4 decals…

Once upon a long ago there was a proposal to merge the Santa Fe with the Southern Pacific. The pending merge of the two railroads brought forth the colorful Kodachrome Bonnets.
Here are a couple of Santa Fe Kodachrome painted GP35's
pulling a mixed freight of well cars, tank cars, and box cars.

As others have said, I, as well, am a huge fan of 15" SF passenger cars. Besides Lionel, I have plated cars from both MTH and K-Line. Some cars have red stripes, some no stripes, some are painted two-tone blue in RK and Premier. I also have the MTH blue Hudson, a very early RK Blue J . 4-8-4, engine plus the mandatory F-3s. I will post some videos as soon as I can get to the club.

Just returned from 10 days in Hawaii, so had missed this. Yes, I remember seeing these Kodachrome Bonnets coming to Escondido from Oceanside, California when I lived there in the 1980s.
My young son and I would hang out in a city park next door in San Marcos where the trains went through. We’d walk right up to the track and put coins on the rails for the engines to flatten, then pick them up after the train had passed. My son still has them. How times have changed.
As I recall, they’d painted these in the late 1980s, then the merger fell through. They were pretty diesels and yours look awesome. Thanks for the memories.

Same here Larry, there were always lots of ATSF 2nd generation diesels around where I grew up in the 70's and early 80's and they have been my favorites ever since I can recall. Their SD45/SD45-2 Bluebonnets have been my favorites all along but my other fav's are the C40-8W, C44-9W and SD75M Warbonnets that came along later. Also a big fan of the ICG.

Tom, I never was much of a black bonnet fan, since that livery never existed in real life. But these painted cabooses sure look awesome. Looks like you’ve expanded your expert skill in redoing boxcars to include cabooses as well.
They look great and nice going. 👍 Oh and by the way, how’s that layout coming?
Thanks Vern.
They are not exactly my cup of tea either, but they were interesting projects. I have done a number of custom repainted cabooses lately.
With pending retirement and possible relocation, the layout is on hold for the moment…☹️

I already knew that and was just kind of being a smart a**. You know, sort of like razzing gunrunnerjohn about how his scenery is coming?
But please continue sharing your interesting projects and good luck with everything. 👍

Oh, my . . . if only . . . (sigh).
Santa Fe would have had great success with the Train Master had they purchased any, but I don't think they even took them for a demo run. They were fast on acceleration, good pullers, and had outstanding dynamic braking. I sure would like to have been called for the SDX with four of them and go flying down through the orange groves to the coast and then roaring through all the sags and over the 2.2% grade at Miramar, into San Diego. Oh well . . .
Here's one taken at AGHR early 2021 (scale wheels). I have two with the same road number, so an alteration will be coming to one of them.
