After missing the last 2 or so weeks, got some  ATSF to contribute to Santa Fe Sunday

Santa Fe 40'- Hy-Cubes by Atlas: left is the the "1975 repaint" and the one on the right is 1967 style

Got a nice deal on this Rugged Rails Warbonnet F3(Non-powered) at the Hamburg PA train show two weeks ago. While I usually run scale, this is "close enough" size wise and well it's iconic(to say the least!). Prior to this, I only had one modern era ATSF F3(K-line conventional set from the early 2000s that's packed away for sale)

Some covered hoppers- ACF 4 bay centerflow(bought at Hamburg as well) and a PS4750

Santa Fe Atlas PS4750 blue letters Weaver 4 bay Center Flow

This one is probably one of my favorites- love the blue lettering and the Pullman Standard logo.Santa Fe PS4750 Hopper Atlas O Trainman

Anyone know why ATSF went with this scheme? Just curious- the only info that I can find, besides pictures, is that these were "uncommon"

LOL - Thanks Dallas!

We moved down from our home at a high elevation due to snow issues and the fact that we had both Mothers living with us in their late 80s. Not practical so we sold the house and moved back closer to town in 2012. The layout made the cover of the 'other' magazine however...

Well , i guess no " old mountain layout " to run   ......... but good to see it was only this issue .

That layout certainly looks like it was a perfect one to be featured on  a magazine cover.

Well it seems that no one has posted this week, 2/27 so I will try to see if I can encourage any new posts.  I am afraid my "Santa Fe" post for today is OLD...in fact it could be as old as about 1914, dating from the time that Mr. W.Hafner departed from Mr. Wlm Coleman at American Flyer to set up Hafner Trains and incorporated the name "Overland Flyer" vice "American Flyer" in his trains.  The design of these cars closely match the AF 1107/1108 cars of the same period and speculation about who designed what continues to this day.  These cars were made for quite some time, at least into the early 20's.

Well that is my "Santa Fe" contribution for today, not much I know but maybe you can add to our thread?

Best Wishes

Brad J: Looks like that gondola is going to have to pass through a very "furry" tunnel !

Andrew Steiner:  Beautiful set, looks great!

shasta :  Great train, beautiful loco and cars, love the marker lights. Looks like its going to be a super layout.

rattler21: great work, really never knew Lionel made such cars even though they have to be converted for scale operation.

Great work everyone...Happy Santa Fe Sunday (ok so its Monday)

Well hello SFSun fans...I don't really have too much SF rolling stock but in a search of some of my MPC stuff for another thread I did come across an engine, tender, and caboose.  So here is my (made up) Santa Fe short freight.

Here is the Lionel (MPC) #8300 locomotive / tender from 1973-74  with her short caboose run.

Lionel 8300 SF train front

Here is the same train from the rear, showing the Lionel SF # 9061 caboose.

Lionel 8300 SR train rear

The Lionel # 9061 Santa Fe caboose was offered by MPC (note logo under the name Lionel at the lower right) for quite some time , 1970-1976,  so it was in the MPC product line almost from the beginning (1969).

Well that's it for my SF Sun offerings, hope you have a good week and the good rest of the weekend.

Best Wishes

@3rail:  That is a beautiful E-7 A-B-A , I admit I am not knowledgeable enough to know what is "fantasy" about the paint scheme but it sure is pretty and sets off those engines beautifully.  However, I am still blown away by that Union Station...did you make that or is it a commercial product?  It is most certainly impressive as well.

Well my contribution today is much more humble but it is brand new to me.  Just arriving yesterday in the mail is this Lionel (Lionel LLC) Santa Fe boxcar #16263 offered between 1996-1999.  This would have been nearly in the first year of Lionel LLC which began to sell trains about 1996, so its not really a great offering, being mostly plastic including the frame and trucks but it seems to have held up well over the last 26 years.  Candidly the price was right ($5 + shipping) and I was struck by the very vivid green / yellow livery and the vintage slogan.  So this one will dress up some of my freight trains for sure.

Lionel SF box side

Here is the symbol or logo end of the car.  Note a curiosity...the slogan "Built Lionel" appears to be missing both a word, typically it would say "Built by Lionel" and most times at least a year.  So this is a very truncated printing for unknown reasons.  Perhaps in the takeover by Lionel LLC from Lionel LTI they had to quickly modify the stamp and only finished a partial job or perhaps it means nothing at all.

Lionel SF box logo end

Here is the slogan end of the car advertising "The Chief,  Famous Daily Streamliner West". Since its likely that Santa Fe passenger service did not move too far past the beginning of Amtrak in 1971 this car in 1996 was most likely out of date with respect to this advertisement. However I admit I do not know precisely when Santa Fe suspended its passenger services.

Well that's it for me on this fine Santa Fe Sunday...have a great week everyone.

hey Don. Thanks for the kind words. The Union Station is a custom built piece by TWTrainworx out of Texas.

Update on my MTH PS1 Santa Fe F3 set.

Painted and installed more detailed pilots, added windshield wipers, some paint detail on the wipers, painted the horns and added fire cracker antennas to the A units.

My MTH F7 set simply received fire cracker antennas on the A units. I am looking for the second B unit MTH produced to go with this set…20-20264-3…tough to find…

I had a hard time finding the dummy B unit for the chrome insert F7s  ,Tom.   Hope someone can help locate your B unit.   Is it a powered unit ?

You've done some nice work on these units.  Looks good.
