I'm integrating a previously built K&P coaling station into my new layout, and wanted a coal elevator to fit into the available space. I decided to scratchbuild one from three thread spools and a motor from a broken Lionel 397 coal loader. It's not high-scale, but it fills the bill for me. This is video #53 in my LCJ&I series.

Very ingenious. Wonderful job and details.
Nice work, Bob. With the coal glued, you have tapped into an unlimited supply of coal! I always enjoy your videos. The mountain to mesa turned out great as well. Keep the videos coming
Thank you for sharing this. I’m impressed!

Nice work !
Bob, wonderful idea. Lionel should make something like that. The old coal loader #397 seemed to alway spit the coal all over when it was working. Don
Ingenious and well explained!
Very nice elevator you put together, I would never have thought craft paper would make a sufficient belt.
Love your videos Bob. Nick
Very nice!

Yes, that's very ingenious and an excellent repurposing of the old Lionel parts.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hi Bob,
Nice job! I have the same kit. How hard was it to build? I did not attempt to start my kit yet.

JimmyG - This was the first kit of this kind I attempted. It takes time and care, especially building the staircase and railings. Templates are provided, but it's quite a bit of precision work. It's very do-able. Go for it!
