Well, I'm looking again at a G gauge engine that's painted in silver and red for Santa Fe #5452. Did they have their SD45s in these colors? The pics I see are in the blue and yellow scheme. Maybe they got repainted?? or did the silver scheme come later??

Good Day Joe,
To my knowledge, the ATSF SD45's were never painted in the red/silver color schemes.

Frank
Nope, the SD45's were NEVER painted in the passenger red/yellow/black/silver warbonnet shceme.
The were delivered in the blue/yellow pinstripe scheme and later repainted into the yellow/blue freight warbonnet scheme.

Thanks! Might explain why I can't find them.

Looks like they were big in the day with certain RRs and paint schemes. I even looked at CSX figuring they'd be rebuilt. Looks like a lot were just retired in the east.
Looks like bigger numbers out west?
Hi Joe,
Here are the SD45 productions numbers: http://www.trainweb.org/emdloco/sd45.htm
I sure would like to see a ATSF SD45 ABA set produced someday!

Frank

Hmmm, maybe a future mod for me. I'll have to study to see the diff between these and SD40 B type.
If I am not mistaken the old F3Bs had minimal controls so a hostler could move the unit around the shops. I wonder if these SD45Bs had something similar.
Frank, I love it! Seems like it would close enough to pass on my RR. I'd better finish the first A unit!
Swafford, your personal record is awarded ten merits for this idea.
