What type of steam locomotives did the D&RG assign to the early Ski Train? Pictures will be appreciated.

Well since the famous D&RGW Ski Train was started in 1940, I guess you'll have to get some history books about the steam power of the Rio Grande RR. Just a guess, but I would think either a 4-8-2 or a 4-8-4, due to the extreme grades.
Hi Bobby. I too am a big fan of the Ski Train. In the early years you could see a 2-8-0, a 2-8-2 and a Moffit Mallet 2-6-6-2. In the later 40's you might find a 2-8-8-2 on the lead. In the deisel years Fts, F-9, GP40-2, GP60, SD40t-2, SD50, FP40, and a UP AC70 HERITAGE. It is a fun train to model.
A good resource is a paper back book simply called The Ski Train by Steve Patterson and Kenton Forrest. I have seen the book on E-Bay or try any Model Train store that sells books.
You may try contacting Caboose Hobbies here in Denver to see if they have the book.

Thanks all for the leads.
Since the Grande used ALCO PA's on the Yampa Valley Mail, and on the California
Zephyr, I'd be surprised if they didn't show up on the Ski Train in the early diesel
years...probably have a photo in some book around here...
