I have 3 conventional locomotives that have the small can motors in the truck, a Lionel GP9, GP38,and K Line MP-15. They all run too fast at even 3-4 volts. I've rewired the motors in series bit they're still too fast. I know others have this same dilemma. Is there something that can be added electrically that will slow them down to a reasonable speed profile? 🤔
I want to keep them running conventional so no messing with the original boards.
Something simple and small enough to fit within the diesel shell, easy to add.
Doesn't dissipate too much heat as to warp the plastic shell.
Raise the starting voltage to maybe 6-9 volts and spreads out the speed profile over 6-10 volts, giving the engine a better slow speed response.
Would adding a series of resistors work and if so, what value? Or maybe a variable resistor like a volume control so I can tweak the motors to my liking.
Thanks for your help on this matter.
