Imo. It smells bad.

I tried unscented and had a visitor to see the layout. The first thing he said was "that smoke stinks".

I'd pick a scented fluid instead.

I find the vanilla and pine scents the most pleasing without being too strong.

In the end it's all a matter of personal taste....er...um...smell.

Thanks guys  my wife goes crazy she hates it yesterday she was out and i ran some trains with  jt mega steam apple cider thinking it was not to bad but she got home and that was that lol looks like no smoke for now thanks again my good friends

My layout is in the garage so when it gets really thick with smoke, my wife just stays away unless it starts to creep inside the house.

The NADA has always worked for me, and I have had no problems in my small bedroom with lingering odor. Since leaving O gauge, I currently only use the current iteration of LGB fluid made by Massoth of Germany, and it is also relatively odorless. It is well to keep in mind that our sense of smell, like our hearing, is HIGHLY subjective, thus the varying opinions on both smoke fluid odors and sound systems. Whatever you prefer and works for YOU is best!  :-)

Imagine what it must be like being a blood hound, that can smell a squirrel taking a p----from a mile away!

LOL

I thought the Cedar scent was a nod to American Flyer's iconic smoke oil of the 50's.  At least that's what came to my 'oilfactory' recollections...  Anyway, I like many of JT's concoctions.  But only on someone else's layout/home/display.  Choo-choo smoke: Fun to see....not nice to put up with/breathe in an enclosed home/basement.

But that's just MHO, of course.  TEHO.

I have tried JT's Mega-steam NADA but even in brand new engines it has an awful chemical smell. The MTH Christmas scent is ok but not great. I have been thinking about trying JT's orange or lemon, as I like citrus smells. Has anyone on here tried these?

I have used the orange scent in my Tropicana refer and like the nice orange scent it has.

I don't think that any fluid is truly unscented. Even the "plain" fluid emits an odor as it's vaporized in the smoke unit.

Most are pretty unpleasant. The plain Lionel premium works great but the smell gives me a headache with excessive use.

Their scented versions are good with the Hot Chocolate seeming to give off the most odor (but pleasant).

The pine smells more like pine-sol cleanser rather than the normal pine oil used in Christmas sprays.

The sugar cookie smelled very good but the fluid seemed thicker which concerned me that it might gum up the smoke unit.
