That is about average for these sets. I thought it went for a more than it should have. It was not in the best shape as it had the normal amount of wear and scratches for these sets, but it looked as if someone trimmed out the motor opening. This seriously hurts the value. The motor looked to be the original induction motor and the wooden trucks were correct. The plus for this set was the decals were mostly there, it was numbered #115 across all 3 bodies (scribed in the bottom) and the metallic paint had not faded badly. I think this set would not have sold as well if it were not for the oval of track. The track is not the easiest to find and for a set to come with a loop says that it most likely had its whole life. It did not include the transformer.
There is no guidelines or any price guides when it comes to pieces like this, so education is your best weapon. Sometimes desire outweighs education and I believe this was one of those circumstances.

Did someone catch the total on the, Flyer "President's Special"? It was almost to clean to be without boxes.
A solo loco sold for about $1600 within the last two years. $3550 is not too overpriced. These sets were large in size and fairly low production.
