So, I am not an app user. With some of these new Quillable and Whistle steam engines. If you select the quillable whistle your whistle rope turns purple? Also do you loose Custom sound features until the spw is turned off?

Yes and I think yes. Sometimes the whistle will get stuck and the whistle won't shut off. Another anomaly and reason I don't use my phone the run the trains anymore.
I still don't have all the features memorized. We learned the bell doesn't work when the playable whistle is active at certain speeds. I didn't bother to figure it all out.
We really only use it on the latest Bigboy. Our grandson runs that exclusively it seems. So I'm not at the controls. I'd have to ask him!
If you touch the whistle cord, it toggles between playable and regular.
