Spirit of the Union Pacific 2nd Road Number from Lionel

Fantasy, since the UP changed the roster number from 9026 to 1943. Thus unit 9026 did NOT appear in the "Spirit of Union Pacific" styling.

Picked this up from the Trains Magazine site:

"From trainorders via LocoNotes:  UP will be unveiling a unit commemorating the 70th anniversary of the USAF in San Antonio on Thursday, at the intermodal terminal there.  Locomotive 9026 (SD70ACe) has been renumbered 1943 and given special paint derived in part from ‘nose art’ for B17 “Spirit of the Union Pacific”, which was funded in 1943 by contributions from 65,000 UP employees (Don Strack’s UtahRails site has a page on it).

To facilitate the renumbering, GP60 1943 (which was and perhaps still is in Cotton Belt paint!) is now patched to 1158."

Really?  Then why are you buying one of those Midwest Model Works SD45 models? Not to mention those fantastic SCALE passenger trains you have.

Absolutely!!!!!!   But,,,,,,,they ARE replicating reality in 1:48 SCALE.

Agreed but I see it a little different. I like em cuz they’re cooler than the rest and when I was a kid I always wanted stuff like that but my parents could never afford it. Now I’m a bigger kid with a checking account so I buy what I like which is scale stuff. 

The MMW models I buy cuz they’re fricken amazing. I haven’t seen any models that have that level of detail. 

All with ONE vastly important common factor...... they are TRAINS being modeled and have motors/traction to RUN...!!

Awesome idea, would love to get one of these. Unfortunately, I will probably only have funds to buy just the 1943. 

I'm waiting for the GS4 version.

Forgot to include it in my original description; it's just buried in the link.  This is being offered by the Train Collectors Association; the Metropolitan Division (METCA).  One of the worthwhile things we support is the Somerset County 4H Trainmasters.

They're our kids club.  They're 4th through 12th graders.  THEY are the future of our hobby.  The modular layout these kids put together is unlike any other.

Hi Stu,

I ordered one last night around 1AM EST, and it's nice to know you have sufficient orders to move forward with the project.  Thanks goes out to METCA for this special offering, as I really enjoy double- and triple-heading locomotives like this.  And based on my early experiences, Legacy's handling of MU configurations  is the best in the industry right now.

Just placed an order for one of these. So excited to have it at the head of my UP Excursion set! To further David's comment, I have heard nothing but positive comments in terms of the Legacy system lashups.
