Not really. A parts diagram might be on Olsens. The chatter is most likely the reverse unit.

Have you tried lubricating the locomotive? Lubricate the armature shaft with a light to medium weight oil. Lubricate the gears, and the axles where they go in the motor frame. Have you had this locomotive for long or is it a new acquisition? If you had it for awhile, has it always made this sound? Are the wheels original or has the locomotive been re-wheeled? If the wheels are original what is their condition? Old original pre war wheels developed cracks and chipped over the years. Sometimes they would swell as they cracked and then jam in the frame. If the wheels are original they might be or have been good for all these years and now there is a chip or crack. Perhaps the chatter is a wheel issue. Does it chatter in both directions? Does the chatter increase with more speed?
