It’s cool the the MP and T&P E7 models are Finally going to be done. They’d been previously dropped in an earlier run because of the different porthole windows and few reservations as there were no passenger cars. Now with the Texas Eagle in production, these models should attract good reservation numbers for Scott.  

The combination of a passenger offering in conjunction with a diesel offering usually plays well. The new Texas Special passenger car offering together their respective diesels is neat but Adding the Frisco Meteor and it’s diesel is even    better !!!! The streamlined Meteor and its diesel have never been done in O scale. 🙃

There are an incredible variety of models are offered. Step up with your reservations. If you prefer a different paint scheme for a given road, email Scott. Perhaps a different paint scheme could jump start reservations for a a stagnated road if enough people ask.  🤔

You get to build your power the way you want. And Only “B”s offered where they are prototypical.

Mann, that is exciting news. So many great railroads used E-7s. So many great trains were pulled by them.

Does anyone know the estimated delivery timeframe?

The time frame all Depends on Reservation Numbers !!!! Big numbers can make it go to the front (or advance) in the Q. This is actually expedited by the fact that all (well most) the design work is done already.
Want it Sooner than later ?  Simple. Place a reservation.

The website says “encore run.” Does this mean it will be the final run?

I wouldn't read anything into the title of "Encore Run" other than we have lost count as to how many times this locomotive has been done.  If you count the runs there was to the best of my memory:

  1. Run 1 in late 2011 early 2012
  2. Run 2 in 2012
  3. Run 2.5 for the "Train of Tomorrow" in original and UP Paint schemes.
  4. Run 3 around 2019???? Why am I drawing a blank?


As with all 3rd Rail product, the market and customer demands will dictate future runs if any. 

I'm considering adding a PC unit to the 3 rail side of my collecting to go with my very lonely PC FL9.  There also is the potential for some additional roads to be added or some possible later paint schemes.  While I have two single stripe PRR units from run 2, one with the newest bells and whistles would certainly be a nice addition.

Other possible paint schemes could include:

  1. PRR keystones with the single stripe and PC numbers
  2. NYC Cigar Band
  3. KCS with the porthole windows
  4. L&N
  5. FEC
  6. Golden State
  7. BN
  8. Burlington Red Stripe


No guarantees and not a comprehensive list, but all possibilities.

PRR Keystone with single stripe & PC numbers! I would reserve that plus a PC unit and run them together. I would love to see that happen!

Burlington red stripe would be cool too. On the late era units can the side skirt over the fuel tank be removed from the design?

But I think that the 3rd Rail Seaboard Citrus E7s will have green roofs, while the 3rd Rail Seaboard Citrus E6s had yellow roofs, which is the early version.  So they won’t match.

But if the 1:1 SAL stable never had E6 B's anyway (per Blue Feather and Andy, above), they'd have never matched if paired for duty in the early schemes.   ...which, ergo, would be prototypical! 

Besides, the SAL citrus schemes were a 'riot' of color in the first place.  I think it would be great for impressing the puzzled hoi polloi with your knowledge and explanation of railroad history and practice.

Yep, this is what I was thinking.  And the tailend of the SAL Citrus E6A including the roof actually is green, so pairing with a SAL Citrus E7B with a completely green roof would kind of match. 

I'm not too worried about it.  If I wanted to get really crazy, I can run my SAL E6A with my E6A demo unit which was bought by SAL in real life, and technically it would be prototypical (though I think the demo might have been repainted to SAL livery before being put into revenue service -- so, on my railroad they're on a test run).  :-)

SAL did not have E6 B units, but they had E4 B units, which appeared identical externally to E6 B units.  The E4 A and B units were painted in the original Citrus scheme like the E6 A units (yellow roofs). I wish 3rd Rail had made E6 B units in the Citrus scheme since they would have matched the E6 A units and been prototypical as E4 B units.

Of note, the E4 A units appeared almost identical externally to the E6 A units, except for the nose door passage on the E4 A.

I’m always looking for improvements. Email Scott with your thoughts for what you believe is needed.  A pilot tweak should be an easy “do”.
However, I think these are really nice models just as they are. My reservations express my current and future satisfaction with this model.

3rd Rail could offer the Seaboard E7 B units in the as delivered E7 Citrus scheme, which had yellow roofs.  Then they would match the Citrus E6 A units.  I would buy one of those.

I'm in either way.  I believe the yellow roofs of all of SAL's citrus-schemed equipment were painted dark green shortly after the debut because the light yellow really showed the dirt and soot from the engines.  So, the 3rd Rail E6A might not match with the E7B, but it could be totally prototypical -- the E6A just hasn't made it to the paint shop yet.  :-)

Here’s a “heads up” for those interested in ordering the Frisco Meteor E7.
The Meteor E7s were delivered painted the same as the Texas Special E7s. However, There is no name on its side or nose. The star is gone too. Replacing this on the nose and in front of the ladder to the cab is the Frisco symbol and below this a narrow box stating “St. Louis-San Francisco RY.”
The Frisco ordered only 6 E7s - 4 for the Meteor - 2 each for the 2 Meteor consists. (The remaining 2 were for the Texas Special)
