Just curious as I consider voyaging into brass steamers, its seems some of 3rd rail's locos exibit a random cuff issue where a rogue chuff or two sneaks up inbetween the normal 4 chuff pattern.I know some forum members have complained about this problem on 3rd rail locos tht were new out of the box. Is this a "defined problem" that needs to be repaired or is it rather a "characteristic" of the electronics design? Theres a random lowspeed labored chuff that sneaks in on this video right about the 10:00 mark, sound like somebody gets shot on the train.

Once in a while would bug you?

That engine is a EOB equipped with Lionel Railsounds 4.0 where the chuff trigger is coming from the EOB itself.  No micro switches or cams as in newer 3rdrail offerings.  All my 3rd party license engines(3rdrail and Kline) do it from time to time.  Not very often and I think with the same sound set.  I would think it's a short coming of Railsound but not sure.   Nothing 3rdrail can do.

Probably not , I was just wondering why it was happening, and if it was an indication of a defect or a problem. Thanks for the explanation, I really like this particular soundset from Lionel, and its a good excuse for me to branch out of brands. BTW I can't remember if Hudson Trainman is a forum member, if he is, I do enjoy the video(s).

Thanks for posting that video Jeff, I enjoyed that when you first put it up,forgot about the random chuff being there. Thats identical to the mohawk I posted above. In contrast to Garys statement, that T3 is a newer offering and still exibits the same thing. At any rate both are great locos, and thanks again for the input.

Newer engine where 3rdrail is using a cam off on of the drivers and micro switches for the chuff but it's the same 10-15 year old railsound and it's the same sound set has the Mohawk.  Nothing to do with 3rdrail.
