On my Layout, I have older switch motors that are of the Dual Solenoid type. I was originally using DZ-1002 Switch Controllers, but I noticed the switch controllers were going bad. So I decided to create an alternative to match the DZ-1002 controllers used for my DZ-1000 switches.
Here is what I did:
- I removed the "innards" of the DZ-1002 switch controller to make room for new push buttons.
- I went to Radio Shack and got some Momentary Pushbutton Switches (see picture for part number).
- I took off the color cap (red or black) and used cutters to snip the top off to shorten the stem.
- I installed the switches, calibrating the height to keep the DZ-1002 switch controller buttons in place using a little glue to hold the nut in place to lock in the height.
- I screwed the cover down over the new switches.
Now these look just like the stock ones with the exception of not having an LED. That I plan to add later using the contactors on the Dual Solenoid switch motors.
