Happy Switcher Saturday everyone. I am pitch-hitting for "Super Dad" Rich who has some family duties he is handling this weekend.

Here are the rules as I see them:

We are a bunch of humble, switcher-loving, do-gooders who love all things switcher-related. So, if you have a switcher, have a picture of a switcher or smell like a switcher, post your switcher pictures, here!  We are also very deep!

If you live in the NY Metropolitan area and you survived getting anywhere from 4 to 10 inches of "early" snow a few days ago...this may just be the therapy you need.

So, my contributions this week are 2 shots of my #228 on my workbench layout:

...And one of my latest #227's (yes, still awaiting its marker lights being installed):

On a personal note, some of you may have seen a topic by our friend Arnold Cribari. He posted this about the upcoming Toy & Train Show in White Plains, NY...taking place on Sunday, December 9th.

I would love to meet any of you if you come to the show.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Snoopy thanksgiving

Good morning, Tom. Hope to see you at the Westchester Train Show on December 9th.

Long Island Railroad 1553 is a K-Line model of an Alco RS-3 road switcher that I purchased about 15 years ago. K-Line also made a set of LIRR passenger cars in the same color scheme. In my opinion, the quality of this locomotive is at least equal to the RS-3 models that I have from other manufacturers.

Happy SwSat!

Thanks for pinch hitting today Tom

I am going to try and make it to White Plains on the 9th. It would be great to meet my fellow Switcher nuts.

I wasn't sure what to post this week but since @MELGAR put up that sweet RS-3 (definitely need to find one of those), I thought some more K-Line LIRR equipment was in order.

Yay! SWSat is on!

Thanks Tom! At this moment I am planning to go to the WhitePlains show but we shall see...

This week I have some Roster Shots of my K -Line Astoria Light Heat and Power (oversized) Porter. These really scale out to a nice 1/32 scale Narrow gauge engine but they are fun. Here in NYC this week I have been thinking a lot about heat especially after Thursday’s commute home from work.

Astoria and Long Island City are in the news this week also along with Crystal City VA because of the announcement of Amazon’s headquarters. The move will really affect what is left of ALH&P operational area along with some of The former site of RF&Ps Potomac Yard in VA.

If anyone is near Carlstadt NJ today swing by the NYSME layout. I will be running today.

Have a great weekend.

Great pictures everyone.

MIKE CT, What did you use to mask off your different colors/stripes? The lines look nice and sharp.

Tom

Relatively good model masking available at most hobby stores.  The trick is to get the tape applied well and use the air brush in a way that, the air/paint stream, is flowing away, from the edge of the tape.   White was applied first, then Red, final paint was Blue.  There was touch-up on or near some of the deep body detail grooves.  Two coat to be applied after the initial three paints.  A gloss coat, then decals.  Gloss coat matches the background of the decals.  Then a dull coat on some of the engines.

Some of the Montour masking. Note that the walking deck was not masked, the angle of  yellow paint application important.  Note the over spray on the paper and masking.  Pilots and flexible walk step have been added.

As always, nice job everyone.

Mike CT as previously stated your re-paint is excellent.  Are those new additions to your fleet or have we seen those Atlas switchers before?

Melgar, K-line was making some really nice stuff at the end.  Too bad we lost them.  Even some of the earlier stuff like like Bob's MP15 and FA had better detail and performance than Lionel equivalents of that time period.

Rich - I agree with Tom, you are a Super Dad!!  Best wishes to your daughter at her tournament

Great photos everyone!!

Here are some more shots of my C&O  0-8-0 pushing a carload of logs onto a siding then taking on water at the tank.

Have a wonderful weekend and a great Thanksgiving everyone!!

Switchin'? Switchin' 'ya say?

Alrighty then... I'll just bring you aboard for some switching from way back when I was still thrashing cars for a living (and before rules forbid being able to take pictures while on board)...

Watching a kicked cut drift into Four Rail...

Looking back toward the crossing before I start dragging out another cut so we can commence another round of kicking...

Great stuff everyone...everything from LAMING/Andre's amazing real-life switching to:

  • SILVERLAKE/Andy-Nice looking Porter! Hope you can make it to White Plains again.
  • RSJB18/Bob-Nice looking photos of the railroad of Dashing Dan/Dashing Dottie! Maybe I'll see you in White Plains soon.
  • MELGAR/Mel- Nice looking RS-3. The first loco I really followed was a Penn Central RS-3m. Same with you...hope you can make it to White Plains.
  • ARNOLD D. CRIBARI/Arnold-Nice #1656. I have one, too. The bells in the prewar and postwar switchers reminds us that yes these are toys that should be played with!
  • FRENCHTRAINS/Daniel- I'll assume that you will not be attending the White Plains, NY show! Thanks for your interesting post. I also enjoy your weekend tinplate posts.
  • MIKE CT/Mike- That is some pretty fancy masking & painting skills you've acquired.
  • Bill T/Bill- Nice looking Alco RS unit.
  • COACH JOE- I saw from another post that you once lived in New Rochelle. Right in the heart of lots of train activity in the NY Metropolitan area.
  • LEE DRENNEN/Lee- Nice switching activity and layout.
  • RUSTYKAMEL- Nice "vintage" look to your switching.
  • BRIANSILVERMUSTANG/Brian- Not sure where you find all of your switchers, but very cool!
  • FREIGHT TRAIN JIM/Jim - Great mix of equipment...I don't remember if you've posted here before, welcome if you are new.
  • TRUMPTRAIN/Patrick-Nice looking C&O switcher operating on your beautiful layout.
  • CPOWELL/Charlie-Nice Western Maryland 44 Tonner. You were very nice to point out there was a MTH B&O Dockside available last summer...thanks again. Also...you reminded me that like your locomotive, we also are humble!!! I should have mentioned that in my original post. Yes, no one is more humble than us! Humble, humble, humble!
  • STEAMER/DAVE- Thanks for always posting...I enjoy seeing you own locomotives and what you dig up online.
  • Dennis Holler/Dennis-I know you may not have posted yet today, but this will cover me if you do!
  • RICH MURNANE/Rich/AKA Super Dad- Thanks for your dedication to keeping our Switcher Fix alive while juggling family duties.

Anyone else that I did not mention, sorry I missed mentioning you.

Also-I quickly ran out of normal looking emojis...

If I typed your name wrong, sorry...Just my chubby index finger at fault.

Anyone who might be interested in attending the White Plains show...if I feel ambitious during the next few weeks, I'll try to sketch out a floor plan of what to look for at the White Plains show, if some of you are first timers or may not attend that often...if that would help? I'll post it on the topic Arnold posted about the White Plains luncheon. If I forget, don't be afraid to remind me.

Thanks everyone and feel free to post more! Hope you all never get tired of seeing my workbench layout until something bigger comes along.

got to have hat!

mex tele, and Pre CBS precision, and killer straw hat!

Thanks .

nice in the train room good buddy.

Tele is early 90s USA standard with 51 nocaster bridge PU... bought new... 1 refret so far.  All three have mojo...I consider the Q an instrument ...very touch sensitive.  What's your current tele?   Thanks

Monsiuer Fendermain, mine? A Parts caster, one piece alder(?)old piece of grainy wood, a thin worn lacquer, chipped from use, spectacular highly articulate Lolars vintage tele single coils, brass vintage tele bridge barrels, aged USA upgraded electronics and aged vintage vol /treble curled  knobs, and a curly maple C neck with medium frets, customized fretwork, fretboard golden  light lacquered, a 50's spec body with a 60's spec neck, feels like a cross between my long lost 68 fender tele and an older one I had. I have a black pickguard but just time machine it back when using the single ply white and sometimes the worn ashtray cover. It isn't an American custom shop but it feels right.

I Once had a pre CBS 57 beater with a PAF humbucker nailed in the neck position that came in a blue chipboard alligator case for $135 long long ago! A neck action feel Like silk. Stolen, stuff happens,  I had a 68 stock new tele in high school in 68. Got a lot of mileage. A couple of tokai, a few early Mexican Teles but this one below is OK. Lol. I don't get too  attached to string things, except when they're gone! I am however attached to my PW Lionel trains.

i hope we don't get kick off of switcher Saturday sharing planksters! Lol.
