It has come around again, that day that we here on the forum celebrate the modest Switcher. We are looking for both prototype and model images. Once again Murnane has asked me to get things rolling again this week.

This week I am posting pictures from a smaller more obscure manufacturer of industrial and purpose built switchers. Because of the similarity of thier name to a famous model manufacturer it is a bit tricky to research them on-line.

I am talking about Atlas Car and Manufacturing, a company that is still around and building engines under Irwin. I have included some images of thier current line. The company has been around building specialized railroad equipment since the late 1800's. Several of thier larger 65 ton switchers were used by short lines and military railroads. Some of the specialized Steel mill and coal pushers are very interesting looking build to close clearances and have been preserved in RR museums.

We always look forward to SWITCHER SATURDAY. The best post on the forum bar none.

My contribution this week...

Here are a few shots of my MTH RailKing Jersey Central SW1 undergoing a major overhaul/modification to fix the pilots and add Kadee scale couplers.  This is my first attempt at doing fixed pilots...lots of fun, but lots of work, too!!

Finally Ihave something to contribute to this thread! I got this last Sunday's Train meet in HAmburg, PA:

Weaver Repair5

Truth be told The running gear was gunked up with some bad "grease" I had to tear apart the trucks, clean the gears and sleeve bearings and add Red and Tacky Grease. I also changed the sounds files from the  OEM EMD sound files to a more appropriate ALCo C420 sound file. Now She loos and sounds GREAT!

I know this engine very well. I used to visit it nearly everytime I made it to Reeds Hobbies in La Mesa Which is about a block away (and my main LHS during my time in San Diego).

The Cab is the best place to watch the Trolleys. Nice interesting little engine and some good memories thanks For posting.

On the Saturday's the Campo Museum people open up the SP caboose and the tiny Depot for visits..

Oh man! Some rough handling. Very sorry to see that. Even the cast number plate took a beating. Is the tender frame bent or just off the trucks? I've not made it down from the Adirondacks in the summer to see this engine but it is on my list. It looks like it was in good shape before the accident. A shame.

Hi, Bob.

A very nice model...and, as seen below, there was a real Tuscan red switcher.
