Joe:

My Empire State and Chrysler buildings are much smaller than O scale. They are assembled, 3-dimensional jigsaw puzzles. But, placed to the rear of the city scene, they still tower over everything else and also give a forced perspective effect.

@Randy Harrison, are your 3D puzzles the foam core type or are they jigsaw puzzle type "cardboard"?  I have a 3D Empire State Building, the base of which is in the upper left of the picture of my LAGO New York City.  I believe I've posted it before but here's a better photo of that one.

Joe:

It has been many years since my now 30-year-old son assembled the buildings but, if my memory serves me correctly, they were foam core.

Joe:

I was looking through some old pages of Tall Building Tuesday and found the above photo. Where did you get 1 World Trade Center? Is it a 3D jigsaw puzzle?

Thanks for any information you can provide.

@Randy Harrison, I believe that they have but I don't know the heart of the details. I have a ton of photos that I will slowly do so over time, same with the videos.

As for Skip's layout, he did start this thread and there were a few posts that he popped things here. I do know that he also had a couple of videos posted here as well in one or two FB groups, but I couldn't tell you much more.

Alan:

Are there any photos in Tall Buildings Tuesday of the late Skip Natale's layout? I am browsing through the thread's photos to study building placement to achieve forced perspective as well as ideas for future scratch builds.

Thanks for any help.

Randy;

I know that Skip’s layout was showcased in OGR a few times. Run 288 was one issue. Since you’re a digital subscriber, you can access the older issues on line.

This was my first tall building build, circa 2012. I used Matchbox HD cycles for the first floor - they're likely 1:43 or larger yet at the time that's all I had, and I like the look of them.

Great job Paul. This is exactly what I want to do with particular MTH 6-story building, which for some odd reason, MTH stopped making. And this was going on before Mike downsized the company.

That is a good choice to model the Chrysler building as a background skyscraper. We have both the Chrysler and Empire State building built as 3D jigsaw puzzles in the city portion of our layout.

In that they are way smaller than O scale, they are in the back of the scene creating a forced perspective effect making the city appear larger. The mirrors across the back and right side of the city also enhance the effect.

Both the Empire State and Chrysler buildings as well as the cluster of miscellaneous skyscrapers on the right side of the photo above were built by the Great Northeastern Railway's (GNR) multi-talented Chris Harrison about 20 years ago. under the careful supervision of the GNR's Chairman of the Bored, the now late Chaz Harrison.
