MTH Railking 30-1589-1 Ten Wheeler that I owned is gonna get repaired, the tender started smoking and the certified repair guy says it is the board. (Dang) he told me 200-300 dollars to replace it. I am thinking to myself, I should buy a new loco, Because that is how much that engine is, there is one hobby shop that has it, should I get that instead or just get it repaired? Thanks

Tim new sounds better than old but I would ask for suggestions about repairing here. I suspect that are several people who can do it.

I don't know your running environment, but your options can include a $50 reversing unit from Dallee Electronics.
Needless to say, that isn't PS3 - it's just an electronic e-unit, no command, no sound, no smoke. But if you run conventionally, it will get it moving.
ERR w/Railsounds upgrades are under $200, depending.
