1.  When the 4449 engine and tender came apart in 1984, the engine crew used fire hoses from a local fire department made repairs.

2.  In the article about the ATSF 2926 in TRAIN's BIG STEAM, there is a picture, and one can see big water hoses with what looks like fire department connections.

Do current steams use the same type of hose and connectors as fire departments use today?

Not quite correct. We did NOT use "fire hoses". We did donate $500 to the antique fire engine restoration going on in Dell Rio, Texas. In return, the fire department gave us the large diameter hose used on the front of a pumper fire engine. The special fire department hose fittings were cut off, so as to be reapplied to a new section of hose for the front of the old fire engine (pumper).

That hose was subsequently cut in half, with out power hack saw (the hose was steel wire reinforced), and heath half mounted between the left and right side tender connections; one for the injector (Fireman's side) and one for the feed water supply cold water turbine (Engineer's side).

Only on the tender in order to take on water from the standard 2 1/2" fire hose fittings at hydrants around the nation (some locations have different threads, however).
