The main line of the New York Susquehanna and Western  passes a grade crossing around the corner from the club.  A couple of our members who are always thinking trains saw that they were replacing all the signals and crossbucks at the crossing   Well one thing led to another and they asked the signal maintainers there if we could have one.  Management approved it and we got  the whole thing including the 13 foot pole, the crossbuck, the flashing lights, the bell and other goodies  The only thing we didnt get is the crossing arm   Sorry we didnt now  Here is a pic of Brad (BLT) and Kevin (PSU1980) installing it

Wow!Big time score for you guys!I have a boxcar with the little lady on it.Some time you ask and you will receive.

A cool grab Ben, that's a nice addition.   Harry Henning has one of those in his back yard, all he needs is a 100W amplifier with train crossing sounds!

Very nice. When is Trainstock?

There's a countdown clock on the online store page of their website.....January 13th

Better would probably be the actual date unless it's supposed to be a puzzle.

We had been watching them upgrade the crossings for a while and once they hot the ground, bunch of us had the same idea. The offered us the rail they removed, gotta figure out how the heck to lift & cut it.

More on that adventure later.

CSX is replacing crossings on the River Line sub, adding PTC and I spoke with one guy this morning on getting some of their stuff.

Should you acquire some rail, the best way to cut is with a porta-band saw.  It makes a very clean cut, much better than an oxy-act torch some use. I have several 4 ft to 7 ft sections I got when managing the build of a new brick plant.  There is a lot of heavy rail used in brick manufacturing facilities to move the "cars" loaded with wet "green" brick to and through the kilns and dryers.  When I built a new bar in our "ball room" (baseball) I used sections of railroad rail for the foot railing along the bottom and front of the stools.  Yes, it is heavy, but also picked up some tie plates and fish plates to connect (after drilling needed bolt holes) and set on used ties.

Oh, btw, it is a great acquisition you have there!  Congrats!!

We are getting there, next is the bell. Figure since we can’t mount it on the top of the pole because the pipe is only 5 inches in diameter and we need 6, so might have to fabricate a solution or mount it some place near the cross buck.

Bob can make the call and we will have it up before the first show, October 29th.

Ben,

I spoke with John S. today and will be dropping off at his house a nice framed picture of a Susquehanna RDC car on the rails probably taken on the line behind your club. Acquired this and other stuff from a lady whose husband was a former club member. They used to have a train store years ago in Bayonne, NJ. She called me the other day and found more stuff in the attic that she is donating to our club.
