Ok…not to be ‘that guy’ who digs up old threads…but I can’t help myself; I’d love to see some more New Haven heritage!

I’m new to the hobby and have started learning about and collecting, as well as starting my first layout and I’m looking for ideas .

Extra points if you have photo/video of an O scale I5; maybe even a finders’ fee if you know of one for sale!

I’ve made a bunch of YouTube content for fun, but here’s something of a contribution I can share in the same realm:

Hi Chris, The layout is just one big loop of track, point to point style, with reverse loops on each end and passing sidings along the way. There are 3 elevation changes in each direction. From the New Haven yard to the Scranton Pa yard and back at scale speed takes about 11 minutes. The overall size is 45x25.  Legacy control works perfect here and I can run 4 trains at once as long as I keep an eye on the spacing. If you are ever in my area, please feel free to visit. My contact information is on my profile. Bill

Lionel Legacy Atlantic with some Atlas O cars……

If you look in the distance, you can see my K-Line EP-5 and my DL 109-110….

Love the New Haven!

Peter

I love my Lionel Legacy #1111 Atlantic! I don’t have the Atlas cars, but I have the MTH Premier! 😍

I love that Menards made New Haven rolling stock, I just wish they’d use slightly better couplers; I’d gladly spend a few extra bucks for it!

I did see a thread someone started on the Menards trucks on how to adjust the couplers and the truck itself, never had a problem with the Menards cars derailing. Do a search or someone seeing this will guide you in the right direction. God Speed! Mark

Yeah I’ve not had a derailing problem, but more that the trucks aren’t designed to haul a lot of weight, and over loading the couplers means that either they will jump the track without added weight, or that the locking pins will walk out of the coupler lock, allowing the coupler to open while in operation. My solve was just using a black zip tie, and putting the Menards cars toward the end of my consists. Otherwise though…they’re unbeatable for the price!

Photos and videos show New Haven 4-6-0 Ten-Wheeler #816 on my 10’-by-5’ model railroad pulling New Haven Railway Post Office #3286 and an unlettered wood passenger coach by MTH.

New Haven G-4a #816 was built by Baldwin and arrived on the railroad in 1904. The G-4a locomotives replaced 4-4-0 American types on the shoreline route between New York and Boston.

Has anyone here ever done a what if Train Master in New Haven? I have a undecorated Williams shell and have been thinking about doing it in the NH McGinnis scheme.

Gene.....I believe the New Haven had "Baby Trainmasters", the H16-44 and when Lionel did them they were black with an orange cab area.....an H24-66 in McGinnis stripes would be very sharp!
