I rode the Tulsan several times.  It was always interesting to divert from the main line at Ottawa and speed down the Eastern Kansas Division, parting the semaphores at 79 MPH, and make the stop at Cherryvale, a depot which served the Frisco and Santa Fe (the two roads crossed at the depot) and see the big brick Division office at Chanute.  The track was smooth until near the end of passenger service. My last ride was in 1969, and there were a few sections that were becoming a bit rough then.  The engine that day was 331L, a dual-service rednose F7 which even at that late date, still had its oscillating mirror Gyralite and its pair of Leslie A-200 single note"blaster" air horns.  Later, I drove from Kansas City to Tulsa and got a good look at the track, which was 90-pound 1924 jointed rail on very light ballast.  Keeping such light track surfaced for a smooth ride at 79 MPH all those years could not have been easy.

 

Santa Fe provided good passenger service right to the end.
