Dominic,

The LO V's are an IRT (Interborough Rapid Transit Co.) first gereation subway car. The Jerome Line was opened in 1918 to service the West Bronx. These cars ran there from1918 to the 1960's. They were called LO V's( Low Voltage) because they were designed not have 600 Volts DC run through the inside controls. The older cars (HI V's) had dirct 600 Volts directly through the controls. The LO V's serviced Yankee Stadium when it opened in 1923. They are now part of the MTA Musuem fleet and run on special occasions. They have been running to the Yankee Stadium playoff games for a few years now. They ran last week from Grand Central station to the stadium.

What a thrill it was to see these almost 100 year old trains loaded with fans on there way to the game, with the wicker seats and the overhead paddle fans turning and the motors wineing. When the train arrived at the Yankee station all the  fans in my car were singing Take Me Out To The Ball Game. What could be better than that!

Dominic,

You are correct. The team was originally called the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers. At one time Brooklyn, N. Y. Had one of the trolley systems in the country. It even ran into Manhattan over the Brooklyn, Manhattan and Williamsburg bridges. It also ran into the borough of Queens.

The Dodger fans were some of the most loyal baseball fans ever. They called the team Dem Bums. When the team moved to LA they were devastated. Ebbets Field was their temple. They never recovered. Later on many of them became Met fans but it just wasn't the same.
