Thinking of getting MTH DCS for a small layout. Need questions answered.

Every TIU OUTPUT needs circuit protection.

2.  No, the DCS signal is sent through the track to and from the engine via the TIU.  The Lion Chief set can run on the same track with the DCS trains with the 18volt fixed voltage to the track.

3.  Yes.  All transformers on a layout should be phased.

4.  Yes, on the Variable Voltage outputs.

I'm selling my rev L Dcs system if you are interested. Very little use as I'm going all DCC. I  can give you a great price, control, boxes and manuals included and in good shape. Selling a brand new AIU as well. Let me know.

If all you need to run is two engines and you are not looking into controlling any other layout functions (Switches & Accessories), I'd also look at a DCS Explorer (MTH 50-1035). It can run up to three PS2 and/or PS3 engines at the same time and provide basic train control.  It will work perfectly with your Z1000 power brick and it would cost less than a WIU & TIU combination.

If your only running a few accessories, the Z1000 brick, has a 14 volt accessory hook up.
