Thanks John

The coupler on the engine keeps opening. There are the 2 cars that came in the set.
make sure the drawbar is not touching the track in a low spot or high spot on the track.
Does it uncouple at different places or always at the same place on the track?
This happens at different spots around the track. The coupler does not open if no cars are attached. This is running on a extended 48 in figure 8 with 2 more switches to enter and exit the figure 8. The train goes through 6 switches, but they are not always causing the coupler to open. I believe the coupler is weak or the spring is to light. A search of the net shows I am not the only one with this problem.
The little rubber bands from the orthodontist will secure the coupler.
I also have Percy for my son and it does the same thing
Tie straps..........

Due to my grandson beating the snot out of Thomas, I have made multiple parts orders from Lionel. I noticed the last time(January 2014) that there is a series 2 coupler. I needed a series 1, but the way that the coupler was assembled was different. I would order a new coupler.(or two) I have not had uncoupling issues-only Thomas hitting the floor problems We seem to have that resolved now.
I really like the access area for the children. It puts them right in the action. I'll bet they think that is really great and will always remember running trains from there.
the grandkids have a good time. They can't wait to see what new cars or engines are waiting for then. The older one has mastered the Legacy control.
I fixed it for now. I took a coupler of one of the cars and put it on the engine and it hasn't uncoupled yet.
