I did see a post about from 2015, any updates? Dead in the water at the moment. It was working fine and then nothing. WIU and the remote can’t find it. Can I still send it to MTH?

Try reloading the software. May work or may not. No guarantees.
thanks! I did try that and no luck.
It might be able to be repaired depends what's wrong with it! did you try a tiu reset from remote, if it wont connect to remote try connecting 4 conductor phone cord and try to reset it ! you can't send it to MTH they are only doing Warranty work otherwise you use ASC Tech's such as me or anyone on the forum that is a asc tech !
I'm in new jersey if i can help you!

It's most likely dead. When they blink more than five times, it usually indicates an issue with the microprocessor or memory, and we really don't have the ability to correct any of that. FWIW, I have two dead ones in my cabinet here with the same symptoms.
Oh boy that sucks. I just bought a $400 led light. Worked for all of 30 minutes. I will try to reset it with the cord. Pretty much toast I think. I live in Ohio, I suppose I could mail it to NJ but sounds like it is beyond repair.
The prospects are usually dim for the nine blinks, I don't know anyone that has managed to fix one of those yet.

Just curious, What revision is this TIU? I've seen this problem before but only on the first model REV. G units.
It has no sticker so must be a g model?
I do have a DCS explorer so I can still run trains but still.
No sticker means it's a G.
Both of the ones I have with that issue are also the G model.
Checked the ebay prices, no way I can justify paying that much for something so unreliable. Welcome to the hobby I guess. My DCS explorer has been rock solid so that's something. I did put in a preorder for the new model but that will probably be quite a while before it actually ships if at all. I have a PCC car and Liberty Liner I wanted to try out in trolley mode. Guess not..
It may be the memory chip failing. I have replaced them before to restore operation, but I have also seen it not work. I have one memory chip still in stock and can attempt the repair if you like. My email in my profile. I am 3 and 1 on the win loss record. This usually is a Rev G issue. G

I wouldn't say TIUs are unreliable. The first issue ones (Revision G) have issues but the later ones are pretty solid. The Revision L on my layout has been fine and my bench TIU, a Revision I3a, has been solid as well.
Thanks. Email sent. I imagine the later ones are much better and reliable. I have a digitrax zephyr dcc controller for my HO layout that I think could withstand a blast from Godzilla if needed so that is I am used to. It is much newer however which I didn’t factor in. It worked when I received it so maybe I did something to it? I will be much more careful with it in the future. Got some good running in with my DCS explorer so all is not lost. It appears to be quite reliable but it’s later technology too so maybe that’s it.
