It might be able to be repaired depends what's wrong with it! did you try a tiu reset from remote, if it wont connect to remote try connecting 4 conductor phone cord and try to reset it ! you can't send it to MTH they are only doing Warranty work otherwise you use ASC Tech's such as me or anyone on the forum that is a asc tech !

Oh boy that sucks. I just bought a $400 led light. Worked for all of 30 minutes.  I will try to reset it with the cord.  Pretty much toast I think.  I live in Ohio, I suppose I could mail it to NJ but sounds like it is beyond repair.

Just curious, What revision is this TIU? I've seen this problem before but only on the first model REV. G units.

Checked the ebay prices, no way I can justify paying that much for something so unreliable.  Welcome to the hobby I guess.  My DCS explorer has been rock solid so that's something.  I did put in a preorder for the new model but that will probably be quite a while before it actually ships if at all.  I have a PCC car and Liberty Liner I wanted to try out in trolley mode.  Guess not..

It may be the memory chip failing.  I have replaced them before to restore operation, but I have also seen it not work.  I have one memory chip still in stock and can attempt the repair if you like.  My email in my profile.  I am 3 and 1 on the win loss record.  This usually is a Rev G issue.  G

I wouldn't say TIUs are unreliable. The first issue ones (Revision G) have issues but the later ones are pretty solid. The Revision L on my layout has been fine and my bench TIU, a Revision I3a, has been solid as well.

Thanks. Email sent. I imagine the later ones are much better and reliable. I have a digitrax zephyr dcc controller for my HO layout that I think could withstand a blast from Godzilla if needed so that is I am used to.  It is much newer however which I didn’t factor in.  It worked when I received it so maybe I did something to it? I will be much more careful with it in the future. Got some good running in with my DCS explorer so all is not lost.  It appears to be quite reliable but it’s later technology too so maybe that’s it.
