The heck with train stores, go to Jack's Stackhouse for baby back ribs, right across the tracks from Union Station, located in the old freight house.
There is only one that carries O gauge in pretty good quantity, but it is closed Sunday's & Monday's. Normal open days are Tuesday thru Saturday. Here's the info anyway, Fred's Train Shop, 7327 W. 80th St., Overland Park, KS 66204.
There is also Frank's Train Shop in Stanley, KS. I don't know their hours or much about this store as I have only been there one time a few years ago. They had very little O gauge in stock when I was there. I wasn't even sure they were still there, but they still have an active website when I looked them up just now.

There is also Union Station as Hot Water mentioned. They have some operating train layouts in all scales. Or at least they did have, someone told me they re-did some things since I was last there a couple years ago. They don't have a train store, but the building is something to see. I believe it is one of the largest (maybe 2nd?) train stations left that is still open. It has been somewhat butchered from what it was in the '50s when I was a kid, but still impressive.
