Upgrading from a mid 2011 iMac using Bootcamp, a Trendnet USB to RS232 cable and associated drivers. I have successfully connected to the TIU (Rev H) about half of my 10+ attempts. On all attempts that I successfully connected to the TIU, I received the following error message:
After clicking retry, I get the same message.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Now trying a Sabrent USB to RS232 cable and drivers to see if that works.
That did the trick
Tech support (13 year old son) now saying first cable didn't work because it was not pushed into RS232 far enough like he said. (and I ignored)
I had that same issue back when I needed to upgrade to 4.x for the 'recover engine' feature.
The socket looks for all the world that it was making contact and it was only the friction of the surrounding collar that made it feel so. In my case the nuts on either side of the connector on the cable had to be removed before it would push in far enough to make actual contact.
