Yes, it was a double-headed trip, but it was deadhead move back to Cheyenne. The excursion ran west, came back east empty with only support crew

Lucas, we must have been standing literally feet away from each other as I have a nearly identical shot from Tie Siding on Sunday. I was in the blue coat with the white hat. I wish I would have known and I would have introduced myself. Nice photos and a good chase!

UP FEF-3 844 came along for the ride too, making for a nice double header.. The chase was nice and comfortable, a 10 minute stop at the summit of Sherman Hill helped us get ahead.

Up at the Summit on Sherman we had the most delightful freezing fog! The chase down to Otto Road was interesting. 

Home coming at the Colorado & Southern (BNSF Front Range Sub) bridge

Otto Road (old US 30), just past Otto, Wyo. 

It was a great 2 weeks

Wonderful pics, Erik.  there a couple I'd love to individually apply a like (love) stamp to but I'll like your whole post instead.  Wonderful capture of light and composition!

Cheyenne to Ogden and back with no major problems or delays, with a complicated locomotive, with minimum previous break-in time. (Make that two complicated locomotives.) Seems like quite a testament to the work of the UP Steam Crew.

Apparently they were using the rail warmers on both engines.  Well, it's always windy up there, and still a little chilly at this time of year.  Any heat is appreciated.

Likewise.  I believe my contact e-mail is on my profile page and I'd love a print of this image if you were to make it available.  We could negotiate size but initially I'm thinking 11x14 or something in that range.  I'd love to say cost is not an issue but it's not as much of one as it might be.

One of the best I have seen of the whole trip.     This could be right out of 1945.

Really like this one as well. UP steam in the vast stretches of the West. Were you on a small hill to get this shot? Lots of work to scout out and then get out in the middle of nowhere, and at the right time, to get shots like this.
