I just ran across this brief article. I'm guessing this was old news I missed?
Would these engines be able to run anywhere out of Silvis Illinois? If anyone has anymore info to add, please do.

I'm really interested in seeing the 5511 run again. I always heard the were problematic in curves though

Yes.

Visit their website RRHMA.
@Hot Water is the 3985 the Challenger the UP steam program used to run before restoring the Big Boy? Do these donations indicate UP is downsizing it's heritage fleet (program)?
Cool that the 3985 Challenger may be back on the rails again.
I thought that this has been discussed before. Didn't 3985 get moved last year(2022)? I thought Hot Water had talked about some of the equipment that it no longer had because it was removed/salvaged for the Big Boy?

Yes.

Yes. The UP heritage fleet now has only #4014, #844 (4-8-4), and A-B-A E units.

Also, yes.
Thank you HW!
From what I know, flues have arrived from Germany for the 3985 and the 5511. Personally it sounds like the Iowa Interstate may very well be willing to operate over their rail, like the Iowa Interstate's QJ did. But that is not for certain!! But it could happen.
Well I missed the announcement but that's pretty cool! I'm glad to hear about more steam being restored/preserved.
Please go to their website at: RRHMA.com
You will be able to read their latest update and plenty of photos to see the progress.

I don't remember what the original topic was titled, it could have been about the museum acquiring the locomotives. As I had said and Hot Water affirmed, someone had asked about parts that 3985 had on it originally and if they were to be restored to working order. Hot Water replied no because the equipment in question was salvaged for the Big Boy. I don't recall exactly what it was, but it was taken off a long with other equipment that was needed for the Big Boy restoration. You can check out the website that he listed for better information on all of what will be going on.

I was surprised they let 6936 go. I got to see her once, with a small consist of the heritage cars zooming up the UP north line up high on the elevated section north of Central St. Totally unexpected, never forget it. Big and LOUD.

I believe all the oil firing equipment, including the tender from 3985 were used on the Big Boy.
