Hello all...

I'm looking to put Scullin discs onto a K-line scale #5344.

Any ideas on which driver set, either full axle or press fit onto the existing K-line axles, that I can acquire to do this?

If I were able to "score" some wheels, how easy is it to pull the existing ones off the axles and press on the new ones.  I do have access to a full shop, so it shouldn't an issue to press them on, but what kind of puller should I use?

Thanks,

-Mario

Lionel's a couple of versions of Lionel's scale J3a have driver attached with screws; the

Empire State J3a has pressed-on drivers. I can only suggest that you get a set of

Lionel and MTH press-fit driver/axle parts and do some measuring and a lot of "Hm-m-m".

The screw-ons may work (you have a shop; the screw goes through the driver into the axle), and Lionel has had them available in their parts inventory.

Modern drivers are pressed on much more snugly than they were in the old days. I've never pulled any, but I hear that breakage can be a problem. Theoretically you don't care,

but...

Type of puller? Try Olsen's Toy Train Parts; not their area (modern items) so far as I know,

but they might have some suggestions - maybe even a puller.

I have a set I can sell you that might work. They are the screw-on Scullin drivers with D-shaped axles from the Lionel 2001 J3a. I suppose they could be modified for press-on installation; the important thing is they are also foreign production so they should be the correct smaller scale dimensions. Please email me if interested.
