I have had a K-Line semi scale pacific for 10 years and I decided to do some upgrades.  Today I replaced the weak piston driven smoke unit it with a Lionel fan driven unit.  It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be, but I got it in there and it works great.  this was the first time that I had ever done something like this.  I had a question though, there were three wires on the wiring harness that I had to order to plug into the unit and I don't know what the third wire is for.  I attached the hot to the hot wire coming from the on/off switch and the ground to the ground.  What do you do with the third wire?  Is that for those locomotives that censors that causes the smoke unit to chuff?

The next thing I need to do to it is fix the sound.  It sounded like the speaker was blown, so I replaced the speaker and it sounded the same.  I don't know what the sound card looks like or how to get it out of the vanderbilt tender.  Everything is packed in there really tight.  Is there a quick fix to this, troubleshooting wise, or I am in the market of a new sound card?

Thanks,

Caleb

Gunrunnerjohn:

It is a K Line 3388-2488IC Southern Pacific loco with Real Sounds.  It is not equipped with TMCC, there would be a switch to turn that on and off right?  I cannot not get a picture of the sound card itself.  I don't know how to get the shell of the tender apart.  I have taken every screw off of it it, but I can figure how the two halves of the cylinder part of the vanderbilt tender are held together.

So you are good as you have it wired.
