I have a really nice MTH Primer 2-8-0 with PS2 that isn't the best runner and the sounds are kinda crappy. It is the perfect size for my layout and I wold love it to have Lionel Legacy. Lionel doesn't make a 2-8-0 with Legacy and I know you can not buy the electronics after market. I have a Lionel Legacy Mikado that sounds great, and runs great but just something about it I do not like. Would it be possible to move the electronics into the MTH locomotive and get that nice quilling whistle, and other legacy features into it? Has anyone tried this?

I haven't ever tried it obviously but I think you should definitely just tinker with it and try it out. Doesn't hurt in trying. Ingenuity is what makes this hobby great. Go for it!
I'm not sure if the MTH Sensor on their motor will work with the legacy board, so a motor transfer may be needed also. I am currently working on reworking a MTH N&W Aux water tender into the one used by the Milw 261 group. This week I will be ordering some parts, Aux tender is all stripped and I will use a Legacy board inside the the tender from a locomotives electronics I purchased 2nd hand, this way I can program the tender to MU with 261 in legacy mode
I'm pretty sure that the MTH sensor will not work with the Legacy board. You "might" be able to move the sensor flywheel over from the Legacy, I've never looked into that option.

Really nice, but not that nice.
