I am wondering what the blue color is on VIA'S P42 locomotives that has been replacing the blue/green color?  I found that the blue/green color is pantone 316 but do not want to model that color. I do not know if the blue is the same as the stripes on cars or if it may even be the same used years ago on ex CN smoothside cars?

Any info is appreciated.

Step 1: Install Pantone Studio on your phone. This is a Free App.

Step 2: Picking the color orange off this D T & I locomotive.

Step 3: Take a photo of the color orange with the App.

Step 4: Fine tune the matching color.

Step 5: Check the final color.

Step 6: This is the formula for the final orange color. Save this information to the App. and take this information to your local paint center. Big box home center, hardware store or automotive paint center.

When I was riding VIA in May, this was how the P42s were painted when we arrived on the Montreal-Toronto corridor.  Do you have a photo you can share of the scheme you are looking for?  The little bit of blue on this locomotive appears to match the VIA blue that has been used for years, but I that is just an uneducated guess.

Dave, yes that one is the blue used on the blue fleet cars and striping on stainless steel cars.  In question is whether the P42 blue is the same or different.  It appears different in pics and videos.  Christine Braden used the trucolor VIA blue on my blue fleet custom paint project. (Example pictured below) I may go with it but not confirmed if the color they used again on P42 repaints.  To me the blue used now looks lighter or a different hue.

Gary, Christine mixes her own paints based on pantone color matches.   She is a professional artist and likely has other sources for her paint than home depot.20190809_172014
