For those interested in urban transportation here's a heads-up for this weekend.  What's billed as the biggest vintage bus rally ever is set for Sept 21-23 at the newly restored Greyhound Bus Terminal in downtown Evansville, IN.  More that 100 vintage busses are expected.  Lots of events, vendors, a parade of busses, etc. are scheduled.  Food, lodging, parking nearby.  Urban, Suburban and Long Distances busses included.  Google "Vintage Bus Rally" for more details.

I went to the Bus Boys Rally at Evansville last weekendIMG_0442.  It was everything they advertised.  Lots of vintage restored buses, vendors of models (old and new), pictures, and publications, at good prices, rides and good eats...especially in the restaurant that now occupies the restored terminal.  The weather was good. IMG_0443 It was hot, but there was a large crowd enjoying the show.  I especially appreciated that most of the buses were open so you could see the interior.  Here are some IMG_0446 pictures of buses I found particularly interesting.

The first, the iconic 1931 Mack Greyhound.  (Surprisingly roomy inside).  The next is a Mack Bulldog sightseeing bus.  (Pristine in every way).  The last, a mid-teens Hupmobile 7 passenger sedan, the first vehicle used for public transportation by the founder of Greyhound (in Minnesota). (He was a Hupmobile dealer).

I'm really glad I got to attend, and thank the Bus Boys for their sponsorship of this very successful event.

School buses were well represented, with buses by Crown, Thomas, Bluebird, GMC, etc. on display.  Both large and small school buses were on hand.  I would also like to see some vintage school bus models.   How about a REO.
