At the US Botanic Garden - end of the mall at the Capitol they have a G Scale display that I believe is a Hobbit theme.

During the holiday season, the U.S. Botanic Garden presents "Season’s Greenings", a unique exhibit featuring model trains and incredible replicas of Washington, DC's most famous buildings and monuments. The garden railway was designed by Paul Busse of Applied Imagination in Alexandria, Kentucky. The exhibit is truly amazing with all of the buildings made of real plant materials! Adults and children will be fascinated by this special Christmas-time treat in the nation's capital.

Dates: November 22, 2012 through January 1, 2013.
Location: U.S. Botanic Garden, next to the U.S. Capitol at First St., NW. Washington, DC.

I had a good bit of time to kill before catching my Marc train home this afternoon on the Brunswick Line (former B&O). I waddled over to the layout. Nice layout. Some fellow Tracker members were involved in setting it up and ran into them at Catoctin Mountain Trains picking stuff up for it a few weeks ago. An RMT S2 switcher with Christmas train, Williams Amtrak Genesis with Amfleets, and a Williams Scale GG1 with scale cars were running. Scenery and detail is rather sparse. A nice little set up but small and "not much" when compared to past years. My understanding is they plan to use this display for now and well into the future and plan to expand it greatly in the coming years.

The station is still under renovation and the layout is in that area. Surrounded by scaffolding and safety nets with not much foot traffic compared to other areas of the station. You would think they would put it in a more high traffic area, at least while construction is going on.

What would be really cool for the station is a abbreviated mockup of Union terminal on a future layout.

Of course it can't be true scale but look at the nice job Lonel did on the Hells Gate bridge. If that thing was scale it would be around a hundred foot long. But, it looks like the Hells Gate and fits on most platforms.

This sounds like a job for the Train Worx gang, Dorcie can you hear the call public relations.
