Slow progress (time of year, and work). I continue to work on the under layout layout in short bursts. Got the track painted and balasted, as well as basic trackside ground cover, installed the wood and balast retaining wall behind the barn. Selective cropping makes it look more complete. 😂

To continue the joining of the transcontinental railroad theme, here are some photos that I a took in Ogden, Utah a few years back. NH Joe
Ogden Union Station is a beauty.
The Golden Spike Safe. This safe housed the original golden spike until 1989 as explained in the photo. It now holds the Utah golden spike. See the caption.

Great photos. Here are some shots of the VIA train at the Yale tunnels while it was running on a daylight schedule through the Fraser and Thompson Canyon. They changed the schedule across Canada now so that it runs through some of the most scenic part of the trip at night. Also running some O scale 2 rail on dual gauge track on a garden railway, with G scale trains in the background. And my Bachmann ON30 fleet have been wanting to repaint and decal them for the White Pass one of my favorite railways to ride. Will take a lot of work to do the repaints and just wanted to get it done repainted the roofs of the passenger cars to close to WP colors then just made some decals close to the body paint colors on my ink jet printer with thin photo paper and stuck them on with double sided tape now have a White Pass fleet.

Here's some iPhone shots of an MTH H10 that's been kicking around my shop for awhile. I got it running last weekend after converting over to TMCC w/ERR cruise and sound. I also hung a Kadee on the tender and gave it a basic weathering job (actually not quite finished in these pics).
Here's a short vid of it cruising my layout:

Hello Norm. I am curious why you converted the mth H10 to tmcc. Also what sound system is in your Q1? Thanks you.
Patrick, are the signs on the wall behind the billiards parlor fridge magnets?
Jeff, I don't have DCS. Not sure it even worked in this engine anyway although I was able to run it conventionally. Since I got it cheap enough I stripped the guts out and gave them to a pal that runs DCS.
I used Lionel S1 sounds in my Q1.
As my wife an I continue to go through the house and straighten up, we keep finding treasures.......a packet of pics from FotoMat .....Remember them?
These are from 94-95 when I was trying to build my layout with a "high rail" theme. You can see the buildings.....K-Line and Plasticville.....Kenner building kits.....my daughter was snapping pictures of me while I was building insulated tracks to actuate trackside accessories.
Then fast forward about 4-5 years into the future (about 98-99), the whole character of my modeling changed and my taste for (and the availability of) of more realistic buildings is evident.
BTW....the little boy in the background above graduates UVA Law this weekend. No more tuitions!!! I'm done!!!
......and, I still own that blue T-shirt!
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Peter

Which sound set is that? Medium or small?
Latest engine spied running at the TMB;

Small...wish they’d come up with some more sound sets, these are getting a little stale.

Today the North Carolina Transportation Museum (NCTM) the old Southern Spencer Shop's) had a three prong event. "National Train Day", a train show, and "Antique Truck Historical Society Truck Show".
These first two pics are for Lee Drennen. Walked by on way to Back-shop.
Now the train show was bit of a bust at least for me, not even one O-Gauge modular layout. But the "wave box car as I call it was on display in the Backshop at show. This IS the actual car now just any old car painted to look like it.
For me the best part of the day was finding "The Doris" James Buchanon Duke's private rail car (Duke tobacco & Duke Power) and "The Loretto" Charles Schwab's (once head of US Steel) private rail car open to tour.
This is pic of the rear set in the Doris.
These are some pics of these cars taken in 2011.
The Doris,
The Loretto,

I was finally able to get the MTH Premier O scale Boston and Maine & Ann Arbor Modern 50' Box Cars that look just like the real box cars that used to be in freight trains on the Grand Trunk Western and Conrail.
