"HONGZ" stands for HO scale, N scale, G scale, and Z scale.

Post your non-O scale stuff here!

Upon the formation of CSX as an operating company, the vast majority of second generation GE locomotives on the roster were conveyed by the Seaboard System side as the Chessie component roads utilized primarily EMD models. Here we have two CSX GE units as modeled in N scale by Atlas. The 3297 was a U23B which was originally built for the Louisville & Nashville and B30-7 5562 was ordered by Chessie and carried C&O reporting marks.

We've decided to stay in Texas instead of moving so I decided to unpack the Garden Trains.  I've been sorting some of my Large Scale, deciding what to keep, what to sell of the stuff that's unboxed and duplicates....    All my storage shelves are filled and many boxes of locomotives and rolling stock yet to unbox so some will be making their debut on the for sale/trade sub forum.

Here's a view in the shed....

Alrighty boys... it's WFF time... Father's Day Edition!

Well... unlike ol' Chessie1971 that's been sittin' on his loot and saving for retirement... I'VE been SPENDING my retirement loot and buying more trains!!!

(Note: All models HO scale.)

Up first:

The Fleet continues to grow with additions almost every day or so in the form of a Christmas package left on the door step courtesy of USPS/UPS/FdX.  I've turned to buying "lots" instead of individual pieces to speed up the "basic" rolling stock acquisition process, though this does result in a piece being a bit redundant occasionally. (Specifically, the bobber cabooses. Got plenty of them now. However, I've come to realize any over supply of them for the steam C&P theme, then I can use the basic boober car body to create transfer cabeese for my KC Lines diesel theme. So, for now, a win-win situation.)

Here's a slob shot of the fleet taken a few minutes ago:

TheFleet2

As of this moment, the above consists of:

* 21 AHM/Bachmann 34' boxcars.

* 3 Mantua/Tyco 30' boxcars.

* 1 Mantua/Tyco 30' ventilated boxcar.

* 3 Mantua/Tyco 30' gondolas

* 6 AHM 34' gondolas

* 10 AHM 34' flatcars.

* 1 IHC 32' gondola

* 1 IHC 32' flatcar.

* 5 AHM bobber cabeese.

So, I've got a pretty good handle on the basic (read: cheapie cars to be slightly modified for layout use) rolling stock roster. Sometime soon, I'll begin to augment the basic fleet with craftsman kits to be built at a later date.

I've also done a bit of work on my first C&P Mogul kit bash. Here's a pic of the progress on it:

Lastly, the FIRST of the passenger cars have started arriving. I purchased this set at a really bargain price off the Bay and it arrived just minutes ago via USPS:

The above are all AHM 47' passenger cars. In person they are surprisingly nice models. When their turn for the work bench comes around, they'll get Kadee body mounted couplers, wire truss rods to replace the plastic ones, and the plastic handrails and such will be replaced with formed wire, then off to the paint n' lettering shops.

There will be more passenger cars arriving eventually, for back in the late-1870's to mid-1880's, passenger trains were a vital part of the railroad scheme of things. I like variety, so there will also be some rounded roof Mantua/Tyco passenger cars as well as some Mantua/Tyco 40' clerestory cars in the passenger car fleet.

Okay... that catches you all up to date!

Have good Father's Day, all you dads!

Andre

Having a nice Fathers Day weekend, family stuff and model railroading activities all weekend.

Spent about three hours today changing out couplers on 10 Proto 2000 Mathers stock cars, which have toiled away on the layout for about 15 years with their cheap knockoff Kadees.  Replaced them with Kadee #5 couplers (not a big fan of the scale #58 couplers).  While I was at it, cleaned all the wheels.  I cannot believe the amount of gunk that can accumulate on the wheel treads.  On a couple of them, the gunk was building up so bad that 1/4 of the flange height was gone.    Peeled the junk off with an X-Acto #11 blade, then rubbed the remaining stuff off with a rag and isopropyl alcohol.  Still have another 10 cars I want to finish today.

Since there isn't much glamor in a photo of a pile of Kadee knockoffs sitting on the workbench on their way to the trash, below is a photo of my friend Al's car shop and industrial area.  The first photo is before scenery, the bottom photos are what ended up after another session on Saturday.

The glue was just applied about five minutes before I shot this with my phone.  Now Al gets to spend a pile of cash buying cars and other detail parts to complete the scene.

Here is the tank unloading area a little farther to the right at the end of this photo.  The scene is about 6" wide at this point.

Well, break time is over, back down to the wheel lathe downstairs turning gunk off of freight car wheels, and changing couplers.

Regards,
Jerry
