Welcome to Weekend Photo Fun.  I don’t have many photos this week since I have been in Georgia and South Carolina the past couple of days. So here is what’s on my phone.

Here are a couple of photos showing some people I picked up at Michaels this week.

Suburban Station.........It’s amazing to me that the sign lights up every night despite the fact the Pennsylvania Railroad was no more in 1967.......more than 50 years ago!

Happy Friday!

I was able to paint the barn this week - looks MUCH better than having it all white. Still have to add window glazing & paint the floor. The barn is a favorite of both my daughters who love cows & horses. Hooked up the UCS track for the Milk platform too. ( As much as I don't like mounting controls ON the board, my son is at just the right height to keep pushing the buttons if mounted on the side of the board, so...) Also got the Gateman & crossing gates hooked up too.

I'm still on the fence about adding ballast. It would def. improve the look, but not sure I want it w/ the little kids grabbing at the track all the time. Have to think about it. Besides the ballast, next up would be getting some plaster on some of the ceiling tile piles to make them look like actual hills.

While the Pickens is known for their bright orange U18Bs, the collection of ex CSX Dash-8s they roster are also worth shooting. A pair of them is seen arriving at the NS interchange in Anderson, SC. Pickens 5970 started life as CR 5077 & wound up on NS as their 4808 before becoming CSX 5970.

I thought I would attempt my first try at posting a photo of my train layout. It's set up in a spare bedroom on the second floor of my home. The photo is of three houses I scratch built. The red brick story and a half in the middle is a model of my current home, the stone house to the left is a model of the home my wife grew up in and the yellow house to the right, which is barely visible, is a model of the home in which I grew up in.

Roger,

The layout looks great, you should show more of it often. I really like the church. Was it scratch built or prefabricated, if so from where?

Dave, in Colorado there use to be a hobby shop by the name of Mizzel's. They had a man by the name of Rick, that did structures out of rosin. They were beautiful and every time I went to Colorado, it seem that a couple of the structures jumped in my car for a ride back to Missouri. The last time I was out there was probably 2008, or so.

One of my old train watching spots in Philly along with 58th street, where the B&O crossed the northeast corridor. either spots where not in the safest neighborhoods but now I am not sure, either way I WOULD NOT GO TO 58TH STREET unless in a large group.

like most of Philly it is a dump. 58th street I know very well and I would not go there alone or for that matter not even with a group. Very unsafe IMO.

Thanks for the interesting comments, John and Dave.  It is a sad situation, but some of the best urban photo locations of the past are now in neighborhoods where even the residents don't go outside any more than necessary.

Peter, you lived!  Thanks for the unusual and interesting view of 30th Street Station.

Sitting on a Metra commuter train on a siding in Chicago’s Union Station waiting to depart to start my weekend I had the good luck of a close up view of Amtrak Genesis #57. With ten minutes to spare before departure, I was able to snap a few close up photos. Seeing the paint pattern up close got me chuckling about how we scrutinize the o scale manufacturers’ paint masking skills as soon as a new item is released. Take a close look at the real deal. I’d have to say we get real high quality products!!!

Enjoy the pics of the private car. With Amtrak’s new policy I don’t get to see as many of these in the Chicago yard anymore  A29441E9-6FA8-4448-891D-2EC14DC6ADD1E1FA9DEB-F993-494E-A0DA-6BB48CB8D8951898BC64-32BD-41F4-8D36-E6DD9D73BA70C7645D35-0A2F-44E9-B398-952618C096B898FE1530-A936-470E-916E-B53940DA18F8

Well, it's been some time since I've popped some stuff in here, and while it wasn't this weekend, it was last weekend.

This is from Steamtown last weekend of Baldwin 26. The most fun I had without actually getting into Steamtown. My niece was late because her son James was stubborn to get moving. We decided to hit the Trolley Museum and took a ride out on the trolley to the baseball stadium where the Railriders play. When we came back, we hit the Italian Festival. Once done with lunch, we saw the time and knew that there was no way we'd get into Steamtown to really do anything.

Inside the Trolley Museum, we talked to a retired subway worker. All the stuff on that side of the museum he donated as to educate the public. And no small surprise, all the equipment still works(disconnected now, but hook it up and it'll work). The man had said there's nothing wrong with it, just that progress makes way for the new and gets rid of the old. That stuff lasted 80 years, and he said it could last another, might have to replace the wiring, that's it.IMG_20190831_151408IMG_20190831_151415IMG_20190831_151428IMG_20190831_151442IMG_20190831_151447IMG_20190831_151457IMG_20190831_151512I think he really enjoyed talking to us as much as we enjoyed talking to him. He had said that originally it was 4 of the, now down to 2. He had a young assistant maybe in his very early 20's. A good group of guys they were volunteering their time hoping that someone will appreciate their efforts. I know that my brother Steve, my niece Jamie, her husband Greg and myself do. My great niece Elizabeth and her brother James are a little young yet, but an 8 and 5 year old had a great time as they always do.
