I wish that I had put the train store from whom I had purchased the individual items in my database of model railroad equipment so I would know but my guess is that I have purchased more from NorthEast Trains in Peabody, MA and then Charles Ro in Malden, MA. Since the arrival of the internet, I have purchased stuff from at least a half dozen outlets that had items that were not available from the first two.
Ready to Roll in Miami. Fully stocked with N,HO, and O. Plus all scenery, parts, etc. Only one in South Fla. They also have an eBay site and ship worldwide.
Legacy Station in Lilburn Georgia. All the folks there have always been very helpful and knowledegable. It is alway a fun trip to go there and find all kinds of stuff I never knew I needed or wanted until stopping in. What sets them apart for me is how the entire staff always seem happy to see you and happy to help you and they clearly are customer focused.
Dixie Union Station in Mason Ohio is about an hour and 1/2 away from Lexington but well worth the drive. Rocky Lane, the owner, is extremely kind & well informed & carries large selection of MTH, Lionel, 3rd Rail, Ross as well as older trains & modeling supplies.
My go to's for along time have been Justrains of Delaware, who helped me get started in 1998 and Deichman's Depot. Both great people, but take way too much of my money.

Caboose Stop Hobbies is on a corner. Inside all 4 walls are piled with train boxes. All gauges, new and used. Lots of MTH, lots of Atlas. Only thing missing is a pot belly stove to sit around.
And yes Merlyn and Carol ARE the nicest people. This store is the only MTH fully authorized service center within 100 miles of me. Caboose Stop Hobbies does sell at the Great Midwest Train Show in Wheaton il.
The store was a nostalgic experience. Old stores like this one will someday be only a memory...visit it if you are in the area.

Never been there. Last time I tried to call Cathy's treasures....number was no longer in service. Google showed business was permanently closed.
Retired...I thought that had something to do with the spare tire I developed around my waist when I hit 65yrs
In SE PA we have several stores and I buy depending where I am at the moment.
The Washington DC Metro area has a few options,
We do have a chain, Hobby Works, that offers Lionel RTR sets, HO, G, and Woodland Scenery products OK for a beginner.
The "big boy" stores are Engine House Hobbies and Toy Trains and Collectibles. EHH is my go-to. TT&C I visit rarely solely because I have to travel on I-66 roundtrip for most of the way.
I sure miss Catoctin Mountain Trains as well, which closed several years ago.
On the east I will go with Charles Ro and Mercer Junction and on the west coast, Eastside Trains.
North Broadway Hobbies, Everett, Washington. No not that Washington, the one by the Pacific ocean. Not just trains but they do keep N to G stocked, some current Lionel on the first floor with lots of stuff for the builder as well. The mezzanine stocks used (mostly postwar) Lionel, Marx, and American Flyer and a couple club layouts in the back of the back one in N an other in HO.
Nice folks that are helpful and for me order stuff they don't stock without any fees for their trouble. I hate recommending them 'cause it just increases the competition for the stuff I like to buy there; but I realize I alone can't keep 'em in business.
Besides if your ever in Everett, Washington to buy train stuff you can take the Boeing tour to watch them build 787's, 777s, 767,s 747's.
