Bob, Great job on the roof and the stone wall looks wonderful! Between you, Dave, and Paul I will know where to go to get help when the time comes! Great looking work!

Johan, Great shot of your yard! Looks so life like, Nice work!

Dave those look great! So your telling me that you print them out on plain printer paper and glue them to backer  board? Great work!

Paul, your printer did a wonderful job! They will look great on your layout!

So I didn't get a lot of time in the train room as life got in the way again. But I did have time to prewire 6 DPDT toggle switches for my tortious switch machines and hooked one up for a test drive and it works great! I have to Thank Chris A and Dave (DARLANDER) for there help getting me started with them! I love the way they work, it just sucks that I an limited where I can use them do to the support structure under the table.

I hope to get around to finishing getting the rest of them into the control panel and maybe ever get 2 of them mounted!

Everyone Please have a great Sunday!

Speaking of printable scenery...I just downloaded a bunch of images from another train site I follow. Lot's of great buildings, and scenic elements for some future projects. I've used the technique before and it does make nice, inexpensive scenery.

The roof and the lower half of the stone walls are both done with printouts mounted on card stock.

Ran trains for a while last night. Shot this video this morning for SWSat.

WOW Bob... that rock wall is spectacularly realistic. The stone really looks like it has depth. Great job!!!

I agree - I thought this was done with a 3D printer. Can you point me in the direction where I can start finding these files?

i have a floor joist that is 40 feet by 6 inches high in the middle of my layout that I’d like to make into a stone wall.

Thanks!

Experimentation with the first of several E T & W N C laser kit Hopper cars, continues.

I found three sets of on30 trucks at a local model train show today. I found that on the Bachmann truck model number 29904, can you cut the little tabs off of the top of the frames where the springs are supposed to be, that they'll fit on those Hopper cars quite well. I had bought some wood screws and some washers, just in case, and I found the washers, when placed between the trucks and the bolster, works just right. The guy who made the kit was out of his mind in terms of coupler height, though. This is as low as the car could possibly be, and I'm going to have to lower the coupler pockets substantially even then, when I work around to fitting them in place.

Mike: Thank you Sir.

Lee, the Hopper car looks great! Good luck on lowering the coupler holster, looks like it could be a challenge !

Mitch , Glad your home! I hope it for good now as I think you do much better work from home then the hospital bed!

Johan, your more then welcome! Thank  you for sharing your amazing work with the rest of us!

Well its 5:30AM and I think its a little early to get started in the train room. I will get out there but at 8 I have to run to town to get parts to fix a water problem at the store. I hope that doesn't take to long, I guess they don't know I have switch machines to install! LOL

Thanks Guys! I found this site using our friend Google. They have lot's of different printable scenic elements. They give a limited number of free downloads but you can get more by creating an account. Cash is king if you want more. For a 40' run Kevin you may want to see about getting larger prints done. Going 11" at a time would take a while.

The stone wall was printed on plain paper and mounted to cereal box cardboard. For the record, Frosted Mini Wheat's boxes (from Costco or BJ's) are made with a thin corrugated board that doesn't warp when you apply the glue. The first panel is removable and is hiding all of the wiring for that side of the layout- since I can't get underneath due to the file cabinets that I build on. The seams are hidden behind the bumped out pieces made with the same methods.

I made this stone bridge too but abandoned the idea after seeing it in place.

Hi train friends!
I haven't posted in a while. I've been a bit busy. And I don't see that ending any time soon.  As Mitch mentioned at the bottom of one of his posts, my amazing wife gave birth to our first child

Walter Joseph D.
6lb, 9.8oz
19.75"
Born 6:13pm

Mom and baby are doing fine. Walt took a brief trip to the NICU but should be home soon. Photos will be posted online in the near future.

I've been reading him books about trains and even made up my own lyrics to "The wheels on the train go round and round."

The Lioncheif remote is still a bit too big for him to hold.

Apologies, Mitch, for being inattentive to your hospitalization. I have been off the Forum a while away caring for sick  relative. Missed my work bench and you guys. It is great news that you are out and about.

I will be in York Wed.-Sat. and helping out st the METCA table in Orange Hall. Also plan to be at Thursday b’fast at Round-the-Clock Diner. I ‘ ll bring a jug of pure maple syrup so you don’t waste calories on the chemical concoction they serve with pancakes these days.

WOW Jack, that just sucks! At least he was willing to give you a refund, but still sucks!

Johan, great looking train! I am guessing its going to grow as you get more Maine cars done!

Ralph, I love it! The prices is right in my ballpark! LOL

Bob, thanks for the information, the funny thing is when I went there it showed I already had an account, I must have forgot about it cause I haven't used it since I scratch built my Oil Tank field out of cardboard and old coffee cans!

Today was not a great day in the train room as I hoped! Spent a fair amount at the store fixing things. But I guess that's why the call me the facility Manager ! LOL fancy name for fit it all!

But I was able to get all the toggle's wired for my switch machines!
