Hi.  I was hoping someone could inform me on this piece I acquired with a recent estate purchase.  It is a station platform sized for standard gauge?  I am intrigued by this piece because it appears to be "scratch built" due to the various materials used, however its precision cuts, fixtures and paint job lead me to believe it was mass produced.  Further evidence for this hypothesis is revealed on the box which fits the item perfectly, and the words "platform" and "open this end" are stamped on the box.  Yet I can not find any sign of manufacture on the item or box.

Does anyone have background information on this piece?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Greg

Thanks Marty!  That makes perfect sense as Lionel had material restrictions due to the war effort.  It is mostly all wood except for the metal parts which happen to be perforated...another clue being that type of metal was likely considered unsuitable for naval equipment (lol)!  Now that I have looked at it closer I am marveling at the Madison Hardware folks' creativity in using the painted paper underneath to give it a "fuller" look!

Is there anyone interested in purchasing this newly discovered piece before I post it on Ebay?

Thanks

Greg
