I thought it got more crowded in the afternoon. I picked up some parts from MTH and another beer reefer :-)
The DCS meeting was very informative. I'm sure the scoop will be posted in that forum. Lionel has the Weaver tooling and announced the 4 and Mike Regan showed how the modules of the new bridge could be set up in different configurations, which was impressive.
Blue and silver were busy, don't know how sales were, the ice cream in between was excellent though.
When I arrive tomorrow and pull in off of Carlisle Ave., where will I find the Silver hall ?
A number of dealers told me that they had a very good day and that they were pleased. We stayed in the orange hall and plan to begin with the others at 9:00 tomorrow.
My four year old grandson is with me and he had a wonderful time. He was treated like a king. Sound asleep in his bed but he will be ready to go at 7:00.

Immediately past the gates, make a sort of diagonal left turn to head on the curved road headed towards the center of the grounds. Follow along the perimeter of the track until you are near an intersection at the corner of a building with some beams sticking up out of the ground (this is on your left, it's the Purple Hall). Make a LHT here. The rest is a little hard to describe in detail (some gravel path driving areas, some spots roped off for shuttles, etc), so I will just say carefully follow your nose towards the Memorial Hall sign. silver is inside that building to your left (Blue is to the right once inside Memorial Hall)
See the map of the fairgrounds here. If you zoom in, you can see the Carlisle avenue entrance is at the top of the pic, coming form the north is the left, south the right.
And don't take my parking spot near Red...
Good luck.

Good to see you post Sean, hope all is well.
I didn't get to explore too much yesterday after leaving my table, but I did note your old home (and the entire rest of that side room, I think) was now taken up by one of the tool vendors (display made me think it's the same one who does Allentown inside the alcove that used to be the entrance before they expanded the building).
Others in Red hall mentioned similar with empty tables. There were a series of empties right near me, but 4 of them were registered (not marked for sale, just last minute cancels/changes, hope people are OK).

No mention of it that I saw either on the forum or on TCA Eastern's sight but this meet is open to the public (with paid admission and baby strollers are allowed. Saw them and visitor tags as well as guest tags.
A good time, as usual. I felt the Orange Hall, at noon Thursday, was more crowded than usual. Thanks to wider aisles, the red, white, and blue halls made for easier passage. Silver was tight and slow. If wider aisles mean less dealers...OK by me.
What happened to the food place that ran along the side of the Purple Hall??? I thought I was having a "senior moment" and had forgotten where it was. BTW, I missed Oct. York...was it gone then?
Also, I didn't see Arttista in the Orange Hall. Is it me...or weren't they there?

That really stinks if they aren't there again. I was only in the Orange Hall briefly yesterday so I can't say for sure. I know he didn't come in October because his wife broke her arm (I believe). I will check today...I usually buy a "vignette" of figures at each York.

To me it seemed like their were more empty tables than I have ever seen. The crowd seemed to be pretty good judging by my eyes. I think some people selling Lionel used steam need to drop their prices if they want to move the stuff. I couldn't find one tmcc loco I even wanted to make an offer on. Did get an lgb mogul for 200 and williams Brass pacific new for 160 so I am still happy. John

...
I almost took my iPhone out of my pocket to take a picture, but decided I'd just leave the view up to my memory instead.
I don't recall the place being open in October. But for those who didn't make it to York this time, all that remains of that great little eatery are the support beams to the pavallion that once was. Strange to see it that way.

I only visited the Orange and Purple Halls on Thursday. And my only reason to visit the Purple Hall was to pick up a small piece of rolling stock from JusTrains so they didn't need to ship it to me.
The ONLY time the Orange Hall seemed "crowded" to me was after 5:30pm, when the member halls closed and all those folks hit the Orange Hall. Other than that, you could have driven a golf cart down most aisles in the Orange Hall and not hit anyone.
Weather was perfect though... and should be for Friday/Saturday too. Certainly makes for easier traveling.

For those who are there, have you seen a 'K-Line packaging' knockoff? The last items produced by K-Line were packaged in yellow and black boxes with white K-LINE letters. Recently I saw model trains in boxes which used the same yellow/black/white combinations, not quite the same and the lettering was something like: Reproduction Industries. I'm probably wrong on the lettering, but it was reproductions something. I should have stopped and looked closer, but it was one of those 'did I really see that' moments. John
John, it was "O-Line Reproductions." Word is that these are from the old K-Line molds and are being sold on closeout by the factory in China. Several dealers, including Pat's Trains in Wheeling, have been selling them for months. Pat has quite a bit on his website.

John, here's a thread I posted a while back when the O-Line Reproductions stuff first hit. The company acting as the US distributor is Heartland Hobby Wholesale, as printed on the back of the box that does indeed look like a K-Line knock-off.

Not to mention my OLR cars have K Line Trains stamped into the trucks. Rocky Mountaineer posted:rattler21 posted:For those who are there, have you seen a 'K-Line packaging' knockoff? Day 2 ... feet are killing me. My head is still spinning. So many trains! Lots of pictures coming soon.
I'm eagerly waiting!

Hi Sean. The show was pretty good. Got to meet several people. Scored a pair of Lionel uncataloged Dow Chemical employee special run cars for a really good price. Also picked up a personal WIU as I had forgotten to order one.
Lionel had a new toy on display which shows some promise. It kinda combines hot wheels style track with a monorail. It's planned to be low cost to get into with add-ons also being low cost. My thoughts were how I could modify the car mechanisms to make a more conventional monorail out of them. Lionel also had several layout shrinkers on their display layout -- 86-foot 8-door box hycubes and 89-foot autoracks.
MTH had their layout up running under WiFi DCS control. They also had 10" tablets mounted to the layout using a Joy Clamp system which we're going to look into for the club for public use. The Premium version of the software is in development and they're estimating a Fall 2016 release.
"Sergent"? That is the only poster for the movie I have seen with the misspelled sergeant.
Was there a dinner at any restaurant, such as Tuesday at ???, or Wednesday at ??? .... I would like to see those pictures.
Alex
Lots of people so attendance is good it seems, but every time I go it shrinks a little more as far as sellers/vendors. Empty tables for sale in all the halls. Vendors I have seen every time I have gone were missing. Red and white halls had more aisle space so that means they must have removed some aisles out from lack of sellers I guess. Brown hall looked closed, not sure if anyone was there. I bypassed it because last Oct half the hall was closed off. I spent my money in orange. Lots of scenery items for me this time. Pricing in member Halls never goes down. They are charging legacy prices on tmcc engines. Same stuff every York. Still always fun, just disappointed sellers are starting to disappear. It also seemed the sellers are bringing less, but could be my imagination. If you have never been, definitely worth the trip.
I attended Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. In regards to all of the items I purchased the sellers were in a negotiating mood and sold their wares at very good prices. I bought exclusively post-war equipment. Despite the fantastic weather I thought the crowd was a tad sparse. I didn't mind it though because it gave me more time to carefully browse the aisles. For those who love crowds it was a far cry from the glory days of the late 20th century.

There were several York attendees at Quaker Steak Thursday night. Went there again tonight. Food and service were great. And they put a new Camaro SS on the rack.
Three observations from the Lionel display:
1. If you like red, white, and blue, the Conrail Bicentennial GG-1 was on display.
2. The LC+ A5 0-4-0 (PENNSY) prototype looks fantastic; people who ordered this fine switcher will not be disappointed. For the record, I ordered two versions.
3. The 2016 National Train Day boxcar is quirky, just my cup of tea, will definitely order one (a boxcar decorated to look like a 027 passenger car, including passenger silhouettes.
Observation on the TCA Eastern Division meet:
Certainly not the train explosion from times past, but still the best meet, still worth your effort to attend...
enjoy your toy trains...

Hello Sean old bud, The only thing missing was You! No real big deals, I picked up track from Rocky for a **** good price other then that. It would have been most of the stuff that you would have gotten for me.
I did win a New DCS book from Barry, he did not want to part with it.
It was for the most TIU, I have 5, then it was for the most Engines, 300 + I won on both categories so he had to give it up.
I said if you don't think I have all that stuff ask Sean Marchev, he believed me.
ps, don't call him Barry Berkawitz...no no

I met two fellow Seabees. Had nice conversations with them and lunch with one. This is my first York meet for O gauge trains. Way too much for my brain to even keep track of what I saw and where I saw it.
Ken Bianco was calm, unlike his appearances in his Youtube ads.....LOL
I was not impressed by the display layouts. I've seen much better at Greenberg's shows.
The crowd was congenial and I had some nice conversations with a few vendors.
One more thing, the heads, or bathrooms for you land lubbers, were clean and kept that way by courteous staff members.

Sorry Matt, I forgot owed you a dinner. another senior moment.

If you were looking for PostWar steam runners in G/VG condition, you could have a field day......VG 671s at $150 and VG 682s at 175.
G 2037s and 2035s at $40.
G/VG 2046s at $80-120.
Lots of then, EVERYWHERE........and these are the prices before dealing
One table in the Red Hall was selling recent double door Lionel box cars for$30 and had a NYC express reefer (6581) for $30.
Then, you had the people who bring stuff for display like a PostWar 1862 O27 General set......in a beat-up yellow flip box, no track or transformer with obvious dirt on the cars......$795(down from $895).
i had a blast looking around and dealing on stuff......

Crowd seemed better than last April, and possibly better than October.
Spent Friday night hanging out with Dave Minarik of Mercer Junction Train Shop. Well, to be honest, he was on stage playing drums and I paid for a seat, but we were both there. (The Clarks played in Altoona.)

Very nice to hear of another drummer with a model railroad addiction.

I'm almost positive it was open for October, but someone did mention to me then that it was rumored to be going away, possibly to erect bathrooms there since there are none attached to the Purple Hall, either on the inside or the outside. (every other hall has attached bathrooms of some sort)
On the different topic of the OLR stuff, I'd agree that once whatever was sitting in the warehouse is gone, that will be the end of that company and the yellow/black boxes. Do not consider them a "new manufacturer" where those items will continue to be available.
-Dave
My son and I were there all day Friday. The crowd did not seem quite as large as in years past. I definitely did not see masses of people carrying Orange and Purple boxes out to their cars like I did 5 plus years ago.
What can be irratating is how much some vendors charge. I saw the DCS wifi module from $145 to as high as $170. Most seemed to sell for $150-$155.
And we wonder why some shops go out of business.
Between the entrance fee $22, lunch, $18, and the parking ticket I got on the way home from an impromptu stop at B&E Junction (my fault). The 4 LED bayonet bulbs a bought cost me $68.

Are there any other strictly O-Gauge 3-Rail shows (and S-Gauge, I guess), which I believe closely describes the York show?
I know the show at DuPage County Fairgrounds in Wheaton, IL, which is (was?) very large, had a lot of O-Gauge 3-Rail items of every type - but HO still ruled.

Those of us in the SE Pennsylvania area feel that the Allentown, PA show, every Feb. and Nov., is "next best". It is nowhere near the size of York, but mainly O and S, and very little non-train junk. The Greenberg shows in Oaks, PA, York, PA, Wilmington, DE, Timonium, MD, and Edison, NJ are also large...but not quite as good.
Allentown also has a breakfast get-together of about 25 OGR forum members. All you need to join us is a sense of humor.
I was surprised at.....the empty tables, the available parking...good both days, and the wide aisles. However, there is some law about gases filling a vacuum. and some strove to fill that wider space in the aisles, by doing the deer-in-the=headlights in the middle of the aisle. However, I got through all the buildings faster than usual three times. I did again find pickin's were slim. There were a lot of HO building kits there...but few O scale ones. The 1/43rd car dealers appear to have vanished. I found some of the really rare and pricey "Conquest" ones, from the transition era so too late for me, in one of the antique malls on U.S. 30 and not on the fairgrounds. I'd guess are still there on your way home. Atlas must have given up on reefers, for no new ones were displayed. Someone on here has stated that well is a lot deeper, but....finding the photos?
