What type of wood was used on the floor / deck plating of early steam engine tenders? Apparently it was a hard wood that resisted wear abrasion and was used for flooring before they started using metal deck plating????
Yellow pine was commonly used for flooring on railway equipment. Many of the harder woods that might have been used, like maple and oak, do not do well in a wet environment.
