I'm contemplating a set of the new Alcos with a superbass unit.

I haven't heard much in the way of complaints about the ATSF F3s

Just curious if there were any common/outstanding "issues".

If they were fairly consitant in reliabilty. I'd feel more comfortable ordering in hopes the Alcos might possibly be manufactured in the same factory..........might...

ALCOS or EMDs? the PAs are still not in. I put an order in for the UP.

The FA's are in the new catalog, are you ordering those?

The EMD Santa Fe's operate and look great. The horns do not match from the B unit to the A, but that's ok.

I am not sure what super bass means... but its not like having a woofer under the table.

I like

Also, I hear the MP and NY&O versions have a paint job that is not what was expected.

I have a pair of Legacy PRR A units and a SuperBass B unit. I had two minor issues, easily resolved: (1) the electrocoupler on the non-powdered A was detached (wires were fine) (2) there was a stripped wire in the B unit that was in contact with the frame, resulting in a short. Besides these, no other issues. They have been great units and haulers.  I will note, however, that when running with the Cab-2 remote sometimes the prime mover revs do not immediately increase; if I simply stop the units and then set them moving again the sounds behave as expected (any one else notice this?).

I had 2 of them with coupler issues - One just hanging and had to re-assemble.  The other the wiring broken off and had to replace the coupler.  The other problems I had was one smoke unit didn't work (just push wires back in), the 2nd was one of the hatches on the B unit on top came off and had to re-glue.

They should have said - "Some assembly required" on the box.

We had a big pile of them, but several were shipped back defective due to broken cosmetic detail parts, hanging couplers, one bad motor truck and not to forget they were painted the wrong colors.

We have the NYO&W F3's in stock and Lionel promises an April 2019 resolution to that problem.

It is with great hope the upcoming ALCo PA & FA locomotives arrive in better condition.

If the unpowered A in the pair had sound I would skip the "superbass"B unit.

I believe the unpowered B will have at least 1 fatboy speaker in it. Its the only way to get multiple prime mover sounds in an MU from Lionel.

IMO the whole subwoofer under the layout idea is overkill from a 14" long locomotive that you can hold in your hand, to each their own however.

I liked the TMCC Fa's but the 4 RPM levels and static in the soundset on decelleration because there were only 4 RPM levels left more to be desired, not to mention the lonnng coupler gap.

I bought the Santa Fe F3 AA set and the superbass B-unit. I had a few problems with the powered A unit which I posted previously so no need to bring up again. I bought some replacement parts during the 50% off sale last November and now everything works perfectly. Decoration and sounds are both very well done. The horn on the powered A and the superbass B is synchronized so give a cool stereo sound, but the bell is not synced between the two. I also replaced the electrocoupler on the B-unit with a dummy coupler. Overall, I enjoy the product.
