The traditional train season was Halloween to the week after Epiphany (January 6).  This is the traditional Christmas season.  It includes Veteran's Day, which is a shopping holiday - schools are closed but stores are open.

Train season has morphed into Labor Day to Memorial Day with events running from fall to spring.

The major conventions are in summer when families are able to travel.

Since I live in a climate where you really can't be outside or have open windows for ventilation in the winter, I do most things that involve painting (esp. spray painting) and gluing, like building structure kits etc., in the summer. My 'busy time' at work tends to be January-April/May, so I try to get any major projects done by November-December.
