Don....I have two of the Lionel "scale" models and have not had any issues with them? I don't run my trains a lot or for long periods of time but I am happy with the look. I use mine in conjunction with a sound module from ITTC. I sent George a video of the swing arm in motion and he was able to match up the bell ringing frequency to match the swing motion of the arm. Now if they would only both swing at the same rate......!

NJI is making an Upper Quadrant wig-wag in H.O. scale. It moves, but you'd have to supply a mechanism to make it operate. I told them if they did one in O scale they'd sell a ton. Gotta love 'em.

There were quite a few that would be nice in O scale:

Lower Quadrant -- Pole and Arm mounted

Lower Quadrant -- "Harp" (a few variants of this one have been used.)

Lower Quadrant -- Red Target/Red Light (used on the PE)

Upper Quadrant -- Long Pole (used by SP in Southern California in several places)

Upper Quadrant -- Short Pole (Richmond California has two and fought tooth and nail to keep BNSF from taking them out. They are still in place and still operable, but are not used for trains as gates have been install. They run them on special occasions. This is the type NJI is doing.

"Peek-a-Boo" Style with storage pocket.

Then there are a few oddballs:

Don, my layout is puny but I'd find a place for a couple of scale wig wags. Still 1 or 2 around older the LA area that I've run across and have wish some would something. If done right I think they be a huge seller. Always remember the one in Hawthorne, CA.

The crossing going across Prairie Ave near El Segundo Bl and then into the Northrup, then Boeing facility. I watched in amazement at it sitting in the car as the Santa Fe was pushing some train parts box card in. Plus it made me late to school!

The real ones didn't swing at the same rate.  They were always going in and out of sync.

I remember that car spot. It was SP, though. There was a wigwag on that line about a block west of Hawthorne Blvd. There's also one on Denker just south of 166th Street in Gardena (also SP.) There's one on Nevada Street in Redlands (ATSF Redlands Loop.)

There's also one in Colton on 9th street south of I-10 on what's left of SP's line into Riverside.

They seem to remain on low-traffic residential crossings as opposed to high-traffic streets. It's always great to see them work -- so old, but so reliable.
